Those water bottles have to be heavy in the hands.
Multliple local sources are tweeting that there was seen an RV driving slowly across the WS100 starting line at 5:10 am PST with headlights off.
Walmsley is going to crush everyone and set a CR by almost an hour.
I don't know, I want him to win but I bet he blows up after 20 miles past the longest he's ever raced and then succumbs to walking the remainder 20 miles. You can't take someone's 100k efforts and apply it to 100 miles... maybe for really slow runners who finish in 18-24 hours you can but for elites who run fast, they have to have a very bad race at a strong effort before they relearn to race for that distance at a more conservative pace.
Rob Krar didn't have any issues in his debut, and he was an 800 meter runner with less impressive ultra trail credentials than Walmsley. We'll just see how this plays out.
Well, he had pure hate working on his side then.

When he made his WS debut, Rob Krar was 36 years old, had been running exclusively on trails for years, held the Grand Canyon R2R FKT and was so impressive in setting course records at Moab and Leona Divide in the months prior to his debut that many thought he was a favorite. He was far from a track guy with no ultra credentials giving it a shot.
Understood, but Walmsley has run 20-minutes faster than Krar at Lake Sonoma and has crushed Krar's Grand Canyon times. Will be fun.
I see Kaci Lickteig is winning the women's race early on.
Sure hope they have serious drug testing at this race.
Any Carmichael Training Systems (founded and run by Lance Armstrong's long time coach during his doping days) athletes, such as Lickteig, are suspect in my book.
Walms 7 min lead at mile 24
and something like 8 minutes under CR pace. as for drug testing, yeah i hope they test because this is a prestigious event, but to throw out blanket accusations like that is ridiculous.

That's an ice-packed bandana on his neck. Pretty common. It's 105 degrees in the canyons today and the top finishers will be out there 15 or 16 hours.
mile 35 or thereabouts, Walms under course record still but has slowed a tad and Sage behind in 2nd about 7 minutes behind some gaining momentum. David Laney hanging back about another 7 minutes behind Sage. More than 65 miles to go and temps keep rising.
