Who the f*** trolls over sometihng as mundane as this?
Alright, help me out. I'm a soph in high school, with some solid training under me(joe rubio-esque). Our first meet is March 23rd, he is trying to get me to do 400s at 1600m pace 3 days a week. Furthermore, my coach is tellin me I have to run 6 events a meet for 8 meets. Or, I could compete on a summer track circuit and pretty much handle my stuff. What should I do?
PRs if they matter:
4:45 TT the week of our XC state meet.
10:20 split from a 3 mile xc course
16:20 5k.
I have been training since last may.
What is the deal with your HS coach? Have you seen or inquired about the season's training plan? Any good coach should be able to discuss the details of your training cycles with you before you embark on a season. It is too early to be doing 400 m repeats, regardless of the pace, but if you are forced to do them than they should be at date pace, and not PR or goal pace. Three times a week is far too redundant to gain any long term benefit. You will stagnate and burn out long before your state meet. Have you done any tempo runs, fartlek training? Do you run long once a week? You have to have a dialog with your coach regarding your (and his) goals for your season. "Handling you own stuff" is not advisable, both because it is beneficial to run for a coach and to train with company. Good luck.
My coach's training is not perodized. I have read countless books on the subject of running countless times, so that is why I am a little disturbed. Here is what he has set up for now until state meet.
Monday--1600, 800, 400, 200, 100
Tuesday--8x400@mile goal pace
Wednesday--10x150m all out OR a six event track meet
Thursday--6x400 @ mile goal pace
Friday--4x400 @ mile goal pace OR 200s all out.
Saturday and Sunday are off days. Now tell me that this wont erode your economy in a hurry.
I'm calling troll on this one.
Come on, what kind of 15 or 16 year old says: "Now tell me that this won't erode your economy in a hurry."? I just don't think HSers are using phrases like: "erode your economy."
Trolls, trolls, and more trolls. It seems like this site is overrun with them (no pun intended).
go up to ur coach and simply say, "you are the worst coach of all time, and you have no clue what your doing, what i wanna do is best for me, and if u dont let me, then ill sue your sorry ass"
troll
Do what you heart tells you to dont let running take over your life its important to enjoy
I say it because I have read Training Distance Runners by Coe/Martin 4 times, Run with the best 6, Road to the top 2 times, Running to the top 3 times. Liquori's guide for the elite runner a solid 4, and the Lore of running once. Thats why. I'm not saying I know alot, but I do know my fair share of physiology and how to train somewhat.
if you dont know much from reading those books, then you might be the most retarded person i have ever met in my life. In fact, in all seriousness, what you just said was the stupidest thing I have ever heard.
Reading The Lore of Running once should guarentee you advanced knowledge in running already, plus all those other books you read (multiple times, for some reason why).
wow, just wow.
Six freaking events? What state are you from? Most states have limits on the number of events an athlete is allowed to run per meet... geez
Liar.

Fool.
I read them multiple times because you never quite understand it all. You learn more every time you read it. Thats why. I go to a private school in Mississippi, so you are allowed 3 individuals and 3 relays.
ok i can agree, i go back to reference LOR many a time.
but seriously u know that type of training wont benefit you, either stand up to ur coach, or be a pussy and suck when it matters.
Good call.
