s a classic overpronator and had problems with anterior shin splints. This I understand, and am working to fix (shoes, stengthening, stretching, etc..)
The weird part is that she is gets small bumps on the outside of her left leg, on two spots -- one just above the ankle and then another about 6 inches higher, along the outside of the shin. They only come occasionally -- she has been getting them somewhat rarely for the past year and a half -- although more frequent recently (still without any apparent rhyme or reason). They appear during a run, and then dissapear rather quickly after the run. They are painful during the run (more than the shin splints). Nothing in particular seems to elicit them, but an increased work load in the past 6 months (20-30 miles a week) seems to have brought them on more often.
I am a bit concerned, and am not a doctor. I have, of course, urged the runner to see a doctor, but she has never made it past a primary care physician -- since the bumps never appear on demand.
I'm not looking for a diagnosis here (though that would be helpful, any real docs out there???), but wondering how concerned I should be. Any ideas?
