i'm wondering how you guys go about getting out fast and staying relaxed in a fast paced race like an 800 or mile? the other day i floated easily to a two mile pr with negative splits, yet in the mile i had no rythm and faded badly while only going 10 seconds per mile faster... stretching and recovering well has aided allowed me to get completely relaxed when building up slowly to speed, but it still falls to shit when i don't go out controlled. anyone have any tips or insights? i also notice that the very best runners, ie hicham, kenenisa, and haile gebrselassie all go into their completely effortless, controlled form during the majority of their races, while others are struggling to keep up. the only really effort they show is when they are accellerating..
