Not defending the Yankees, but do you really think other organizations are in the dark about steroid use among their players? Everyone is attacking Canseco, but I'd be willing to bet he's not making this stuff up. Maybe some exaggerating to sell more books, but I'm not in the least surprised to hear that McGuire, Gonzales, etc. have used steroids.
I'm not a big baseball fan, but I follow the Rangers as much as I follow anyone. I didn't really notice any 1) great change in body type or 2) great increases in stats for Palmero, Rodriquez, or Gonzalez. Maybe my memory is faulty, but it'sjust as observation.

I think Canseco got there in '92 right about the time Rodriguez and Gonzalez were rookies, so it would be useless (apples and oranges) to evaluate changes in their stats from the minors to the majors that were due to steroid use. As for Palmeiro, I don't really know whether his stats improved or not. I'd have to check.

No. I think that everyone in any position of significance in Major League Baseball -- players, coaches, and execs -- knew or had reason to know (as we lawyers like to put it) that steroids were being used on their respective teams and in MLB generally.
I bet Pete Rose never used steroids.

I'm a huge Ranger fan. I agree with you on Palmero, his body hasn't changed too much or drastically over his career. Pudge has always been a rock and pretty cut but I wouldn't necessarily throw him under the bus. Gonzales, on the other hand, has had Barry Bonds type growth. He was a lanky teenager when he replaced Ruben Sierra. When he was traded to Detroit he was so huge that he couldn't even play and he was always injured. He came back the next year 40 lbs lighter yet he wasn't ever overwieght.
