I have to dissagree. Put Kim Smith ahead of him... I buy that. But lets give due consideration to La Shawn Merritt's sub 45 sec 400m. 3rd fastest ever (not 4th best american on a particular day) and he is also a freshman runner.

Not sure if you got the memo but this is a DISTANCE RUNNING website.
I'd have to go with Withrow. Heck, according to the front page he hasn't even been born yet "Born December 26, 2005", yet still finished 4th at Nats. I call that impressive!
Says who? Why is it called letsrun.com? And if it's a distance running site, why did the people who run the site highlight the 400 meter performance in bold red on the front page?
I would say this is more then a distance site. Besides, I was being generous when I said the 4th best American on a particular day. I'm sure that a few other Americans(that didn't enter) could have squeezed in there ahead of him had they raced. La Shawn Merritt... no one in the world was likely to have beaten him on that day (and I doubt that his 400m time will be bettered by another runner this season).
Pack Man is right.
What Merrit did is like a freshman in college running a 3:50 mile indoors.
I ran a sub 29 minute 8K this weekend. I think I'm probably in the running. thoughts?
