AJEE WILSON LOOKS DEFEATED - The Semenya Effect?

While there's certainly no argument to be made against the inevitability of the medal stand in Rio (Semenya and Niyonsaba are clearly on another level from the rest of the world right now) I think chalking that up as a reason to explain away Ajee Wilson's poor performances as of late isn't entirely accurate. This is a young talent that has consistently been under 1:59 the past three years, and went 1:57 in May of the 2015 season. She had a great indoor campaign this year, but there is more to competition than either beating or losing to likely intersex athletes. Why haven't any other American women broken 2:00 this year either, Ajee isn't the only American professional to run the 800?

Nationalist medal obsession and accompanying hubris make it likely that countries will start breeding for intersex results in children.

Same look that whites had when blacks entered mainstream sports...and started dominating.

I have thought about that question as well. Not sure why the 800m is the current "sweet" spot. I imagine if the CAS ruling holds we will see an expansion of intersex athletes in the 400m, 1500m, 3000m next.

Can anyone chime in on the physiology that makes the 800m ideal for this type of athlete? Is it simply the fact that their max capability would equate to a competitive high school boy thus the 800m at 1:55/56 fits perfectly (approx #348 HS boys mark for 2016). versus the 1500m at 4:17/18 (approx #348 boys mark for 2016).

It would be great to have Semenya double in 400/800 or 800/1500 at the Olympics based on competition schedule and set WRs in both - just to make a complete mockery of the situation.

Like I said - it will indeed be very interesting to watch this play out over the next 2-3 Olympic cycles.

Francine Niyonsaba most likely has the same intersex condition as Caster Semenya according to this story. And let's not forget about Margaret Wambui.

Perhaps the 800 is the easiest to control pace wise, as to not set a world record. Hang with the lead pack then blast the last 100 for the win. NOT breaking a WR in the 100 and 400 might be more difficult to do.

The longer this charade continues, and if objections and challenges continue to be denied and ignored, the bolder people will get. I suspect in a few years, you will see biological men enter more women's events, with broken records to follow. They're dipping their toes in the water; eventually they'll jump in.

Women may eventually need to form their own league.

She could win all three at this Olympics, 400 800 and 1500, if she stops sandbagging it.

She will also win the 800m for the next 20 years (unless we get more men racing agaisnt the women in which case a more talented man will beat her). No clean xx will beat a fully trained, natural hormoned, Caster for at least 20 years, she litterally is a different level.

her last 100m in all her diamond league races is probably faster than the 400m women. her leg turnover is insane

I don't think anyone doubts that Semenya could break the 800 WR anytime she wants to.

Exactly. As a female runner, I don't find this fair at all. This is not a matter of racism or bigotry, this is purely about having an equal playing field. Biologically, any intersex female will undoubtedly beat all XX females at the elite level. It makes a mockery of female sports. It takes away from all women whose livelihood depends on their professional running career. They will never win.

Completely unfair, and not ok. Eventually, we will have fully biological men who identify as female competing against actual females, and women's sports will be one big joke.

And by the way, what happens if Semenya gets beat in Rio by a "non" intersex female"? Have you thought of that scenario? What happens? Does your tiny little mind explode?

She flats out says "there's two different races" insinuating that Semenya and the other girl are cheating because the race was won in 1:56.92.

She then says in the same damn article, I guess all I can hope for is the British Record of 1:56.2!!!!!!!!!!!!
