just stop it wrote:That's 100% BS. Simply a lie that's repeated because it's a good excuse for bad behavior. Mary Cain's body changed because she started wolfing down food. For most females the body will not change after 15-16 if they stay on the same diet and exercise level. Puberty starts earlier and ends earlier for girls. Yes, hip structure will increase slightly for decades, but that of the order 1/32 inch a year and will not have any impact whatsoever on running ability.
Stop lying.

I can't believe everyone attacking "just stop it" on this thread. I thought we were LRC, not Jogger's World. This lie will continue to be perpetuated if truth-tellers are shamed and made to feel like they have a problem.
I agree that "just stop it" is rough in his approach and seems to have very little tact, but his point is completely valid (and correct). Here is what he is saying:
-There is a myth that girls get slower as the age due to "natural changes in their bodies".
-This myth is not true. If girls stick to a strict (and safe/healthy) diet while maintaining or increasing their training regime, then they will improve until their peak years (mid 20s - mid 30s depending on the athlete)
This is spot on. Kudos to those who have the guts to say it. Is it easier for guys? It sure is. We have higher muscle-fat ratio (naturally) and faster metabolisms. We can do nothing for long stretches and "get it back" quickly with the help of weight loss. Not as easy for women... no one is disputing that.
Also, Mary Cain can do whatever the hell she wants and doesn't have to regiment her eating habits/training habits for anyone. For all I know, she might not care about being an elite runner and that is fine. The point stands though: Mary Cain's regression has NOTHING to do with physical changes that are beyond her control. This excuse is utter garbage.
