Actually it could have been Nagasaki had not the weather over Hiroshima not suddenly cleared to make it a perfect target on the day. Reconnaissance planes flew ahead of Eatherly’s B29 checking out the weather over both cities and selecting the target.

Whereas the dropping the a-bomb on Hiroshima was justified given the situation prevailing at that time, one has only got to look at the casualty figures resulting from the assault on Okinawa alone to understand there wasn’t much argument about using it when it became available.

Innocent civilians are legit targets if they live in certain countries or belong to a certain ethnicity.

Since the Japanese military committed many atrocities, dropping nuclear bombs on Japanese civilians is A- okay.

If that is the case, then we Americans should not cry when we get nuked given the amount of atrocities our government has committed historically and continues to commit today.

An country acting in justifiable self-defense can't let the enemy use its own civilians as hostages. When you go to war, you have to kill innocents in the enemy territory—the moral culpability for their deaths falls on the enemy government. The Japanese emperor is the one who murdered the innocent Japanese who died in the atomic bombing. America has nothing to apologize for.

The person that mentioned the Japanese were afraid of the Soviets should consult some history books. The Soviets were in NO position to invade japan at the end of the war. Just logistically it would have probably taken them until mid 1946 to even begin any type of invasion. The Soviets declared war on Japan to curry favor with the USA and to potentially get considerations/profits as the war was finalized. The Japanese were not scared of the Soviets in any way shape or form.

If you study Japanese history, you can see how any invasion of the Japanese homeland would lead to incalculable loss of human life. The war would have gone on for years if the USA had to invade Japan. Just look at the way Japanese troops fought to keep islands in the pacific and then think about them defending their homeland and their Emperor.

I’ve forgotten more about the bombing campaign on Germany in WW2 than you will ever know, especially concerning our British Bomber Command’s conduct during that war.

The bombing of Dresden in February 45 was a war crime pure and simple as for a start, the war was virtually over ( ended May 45)

The target had no military significance for American or British forces as it was in the Soviet area of operations, indeed the swiftly advancing Russians were so close to the city, that Dresden was full of refugees fleeing from their armies.

Why, at that stage of the war, when it was becoming obvious that the Soviets were not exactly going to become our bosom buddies when the war ended, we should be pretending to ‘help’ the Soviet armies advance that was making mincemeat of what was left of the Wehrmacht forces anyway - other than to demonstrate to the Soviets the power of the allied air forces - as if by then, they gave a damn.

The bomber crews were told it was a target of significance as it was an important transport complex.

However it was the old city itself that received the bulk of the bomb load, the main (unimportant at that stage of the war anyway) railway complex virtually untouched.

The fact is that the Allies at that stage of the war had many hundreds of heavy bombers roaming Germany virtually unopposed with no real military or civilian targets of consequence left to bomb.

Apart from the death toll, not particularly relevant at that stage of the war, the main indictment against the Allies is one of wanton barbarism.

Dresden was one of the most ancient and exquisitely beautiful little cities in Europe.

The ‘Venice of the East’ and was an irreplaceable example of mediaeval architecture.

A work of art and it proves that it was a war crime as when the news of its destruction was broadcast with the resulting images, our leaders, including Churchill himself, desperately tried to distance themselves from any responsibility for the raid.

That's funny because i sure do recall a thing called the Soviet-Japanese War in 1945 and the Soviets successfully defeating the Japanese in several places. Hint: why don't they speak Japanese in Korea right now? What happened to Japan's Kwantung army?

Would the World Really Be Better Off Without Nuclear Weapons?

Barack Obama on Friday paid tribute to the victims of the world’s first atomic bomb attack and sought to bring global attention to his unfulfilled vision of a world without nuclear weapons, as he became the first sitting US president to visit Hiroshima.

According to most news reports, Obama did not apologize for America having dropped nuclear bombs on Japan to end World War II. But he did say the following: “Among those nations like my own that hold nuclear stockpiles, we must have the courage to escape the logic of fear and pursue a world without them.”

Why would getting rid of nuclear weapons be a good thing?

Obama’s premise is that if the United States gets rid of nuclear weapons, the world will be rid of them. But how realistic is it to think there will never be governments or terrorists groups who wish to own and use them?

It’s like gun control. If the government can only ensure that there are no weapons (or fewer weapons), then there will be no possibility of crime. If the government (always and only the United States government) can get rid of, or at least reduce, their nuclear weapons, then there will be less likelihood of another Hiroshima.

The clear implication is that it’s nuclear weapons which caused the awful events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the 1940s—not real people.

In reality, if you study even a little history, you will find that the war against the United States was initiated by Japan. It started with Pearl Harbor, the 9/11 of its day. Japan is a peaceful and mostly free country today, compared to the 1930s and 1940s. Japan at the time was controlled by a brutal dictatorship determined to dominate the world. Its soldiers actually went on suicide missions, in devotion to their regime and its beliefs. Sound familiar?

If the United States had not possessed nuclear weapons in the 1940s, many more thousands of American soldiers would have died in the attempt to defeat Japan at sea and on the ground. War could have dragged on for years, and the United States might not have won. Nuclear weapons, when used by peace-loving people only interested in self-defense and ending the war against a brutal, suicidal dictatorship are actually a good thing.

A good thing—not only for Americans, but for Japanese as well. Obama said, “The world was forever changed here but, today, the children of this city will go through their day in peace. What a precious thing that is.”

Would today’s Japanese children be at peace if the United States had not defeated their dictatorial government? Without such a decisive defeat on the part of America and its allies in the 1940s, we have no idea what the world would look like today. It might have continued in a state of prolonged war, or be run by a totalitarian world dictatorship. Today’s Japanese children would not enjoy peace and freedom if America’s generation of yesterday had not so valiantly and decisively fought to make peace and freedom the norm.

Obama is so profoundly wrong, and so incredibly evasive, about so many things that it numbs the mind at times. He might not have apologized for America using nuclear force against Japan, but he provided all the means necessary for others to do so by reinforcing the false idea that nuclear weapons kill people, not evil people.

Evil people will always exist. They will always find the means to impose force, cruelty or torture on others. Good people can either put their heads in the sand and allow themselves to be destroyed, or build weapons of their own. The best way to prevent war is not to dismantle your weapons; the best way to prevent war is to build so many weapons that nobody will ever go near you – particularly if they know you are prepared to use them.

Obama has done just the opposite. He has weakened our military force, cut our weaponry, ensured that our biggest enemies (e.g. Iran) will have the means to build nuclear weapons and apologized for America every year of his presidency. He has also made sure that America’s word means nothing, except when it comes to weakening America. He runs our military and government almost exactly as someone would if they wanted America to be attacked, destroyed or simply to go away.

If peace is your goal, you should not be applauding Obama for his easy, naïve and pitifully meaningless prattle in Japan. If peace is your goal, you’d support a strong country militarily, the precise opposite of what Obama has given us.

Well, he does seem to be following the orders of his ziomasters - just like Merkel - when it comes to trying to commit genocide against whites in the US and Europe.

It was interesting that the puppet in chief never mentioned a war was going on, the Japanese balloons launched at the US, the Japanese working on a plan to hit the US with what could be termed a dirty nuke via submarine, but their program wasn't developed enough. Just as the Aryan Germans were the master race in Europe, so were the Japanese the master race in Asia. Technically, intellectually and physically superior to the Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese etc. They even looked better. A true master race. This is why the the Aryan Germans found it so easy to forge ties with another group of people they felt a kindred spirit with which were the Japanese. The Italians, though very good looking, were cowardly and utterly hopeless at manufacturing anything that could last more than five minutes without breaking down. However, Mussolini, a true suck-up if ever there was one, really tried to ingratiate himself into the club. Hitler finally let him in not so much out of respect for Italy's past Roman greatness, but because, as everyone knows, the Italians are really good cooks. The Germans, not so much.

Well this combination of superior genes and superior cooking skills upset the then-existing balance of power, which on the European continent were the Frogs, whose cooking skills (and physical looks) are vastly overrated, and the mongrel Brits (who have no cooking skills), so of course war broke out.

In Asia it was the same thing: the Chinese with their robes and slippers and bland, mushy chop suey, were no match for the superior Japanese who had the Zero fighter plane, Yamato battleship, and, of course, sushi.

Enter the United States. The most mongrel nation of them all with a national cuisine to match. Our nation's entry into this worldwide food fight turned the tide, and in the wake of the technology used to fire bomb Dresden and atomize Hiroshima and Nagasaki we gave the world the TV dinner as a final affront to culinary skills everywhere. The Italians were particularly horrified.

But just as the American South lost the battle but won the war (i.e. ongoing segregation, and racism in the North), the master races got the last laugh as

salsa sales overtook ketchup sales, we developed a national obsession with foodies and the Food Channel, and beer-bellied truckers can buy sushi at their favorite truck stop. As they say, "what goes 'round comes 'round".
