Is that a national record for Elroy Gelant of South Africa in 13:04 or did Maree or others run faster for them?
Yes it is a National Record.
Sydney Maree ran 13:01.15 after becoming American.

Butchart's improvement is the best of the group.
From 13:29.49 pb to 13:13.30 in the span of one race. That's an amazing progression.
Not discounting his improvement, but he ran 13:18 a couple weeks ago at Payton Jordan (2nd place) so it wasn't in the span of one race. But still, that's a really solid improvement nonetheless.

truth be told, jooooker wrote:but technically and literally he ran faster than 13:01
Correct. Just as if I ran a 10.99 100m I could honestly say I ran 10.00.
What? I'm pretty sure you mean 11.00 not 10.00. If Bolt ran 9.57, it'd be a world record even though it's only .01 faster than 9.58. It is what it is. 13:00.99 = 13:00.99 and 13:01.00 = 13:01.00. If he ran 12:59.99, it'd be a sub 13 clocking no matter what anyone says.
Looks like the American women tanked...hard.
