It's just silly not making Bekele a part of the team for the marathon in the Olympics.

Why? 28min 10k is nothing to write home about.
And Wilson Kipsang in 2016 is a 1:02/2:07 runner. Sad, but true.
And, I take it you're going to say something similar about Dibaba? 31:16 isn't something to write home about? Even though she beat Kiplagat? Their times are pretty comparable for the respective sexes.

Um, he just ran a marathon 28 days ago.
28 on the road is fast.

Not really for Bekele in this am tempo run…but his hard workout session is scheduled for this afternoon.
Did Fred get the "perfect" form video of Dibaba and Bekele?
Alberto needs it right away.

The man himself, the GOAT of all-time by the way, said that he wasn't expecting to go that fast after London already. I think he knows a thing or two about running fast. Pair that with a 3rd place finish in arguably the fastest marathon ever run against the best specialists the discipline has ever seen. All of this a couple of months after coming from prolonged downtime due to injury.
Now THAT seems like something to write home about.
I may be biased though because to me Bekele has no competition when fit.

Wow, you really believe Kipsang was/is a 1:02/2:07 runner in 2016? I bet you just look up the figures(times) and never watch races or even have a clue of who the runners in question are. Sad!
For your info the 2:07 time Kipsang ran in London do not even tell half the story. Apart from the suicidal pace adopted for most of the race(28:37 at 10K which is sub 2:01 marathon finish time), Kipsang overcame a fall at a water/drink-station. If on the same day the pace was even for a 2:04 finish time, Kipsang would have run that, no problem. And Bekele too would have run 2:04 if not faster. As for Dennis Kimetto(I know you didn't mention him and wasn't in this Manchester race), his best could be a 2:07 - 2:08 right now. And that is due to injuries and the consequences of winning big time money for a novice like him. I hope he invested enough.
Nicely said! I couldn't agree more. The only plausible explanation that I can think of as to why Bekele is only an alternate for the marathon team, would be if Ethiopia questions his ability to make it to the starting line fit and without injury, after a solid marathon build up. Unfortunately, Bekele has been plagued with injuries for the last 6 years. My guess is they will watch how he developes over the next 3 months, and if they go well, Ethiopia will find an excuse to move him up as a starter. They know he is their best hope for gold if he is 100 percent, and they want the gold!
Steve cram said the Ethiopiana may change their minds before rio
I've only gotten into running in 2014 and I hope Bekele makes it to Rio because I want to see him in a high profile race as I missed his entire career when I was a couch potato :(
