Ohio University
NCAA XC Champion. '65 (I think), give or take a year. Where does he now coach?
yes ncaa xc champ in 1964, coached the OHIO U Bobcats until retiring 2 years ago.
remotely related ? Who was the only NBA player to shoot 3 air balls in a 3- to make 2 situation?

The OU Bobcats part is correct, the retired part is not. Where does he 'presently' coach?
I have no clue about the airball question and am actually quite proud that I don't know.
Elmore Smith, L.A. Lakers, 1974
And what was the site for EBanton's NCAA cross win?
University of Kansas
Wrong. Guess again. Hint: it was held here from its inception until '64.
I was pretty sure that Michigan state held them until but not including 1964 - 64 and 65 were at Kansas
Let me look it up
Oh well found it weird two places one says 64 was at Kansas - but the official NCAA site says that the first one at Kansas was 1965 so must have been 64-65 season

I stand corrected...
Yeah, it was held at Forest Akers West golf course at MSU until '64. I was lucky to race there in my day. Now they run across the street at FW East where it's relatively flat.
Let's try this again: they run at FA East now and when I ran at FA West, it was several years after '64.
I have a positive memory from Ohio U: was on EMU's first MAC championship team of any kind when we won in '73. Tough course. No surprise considering the area. Also ran on their track when it was still cinders...only time in college I ran on cinders. This was '74.
Looks like we answered each other at the same time there.
Ahh hence the Michigan connection - I went to UofM next to you but later in time late 80's, fond memories of the area - actually I think we got in a discussion at one time about Dexter a year or so back...
I have run on Cinders a few times here back east when I was a kid - made for some interesting meets for sure...
ELMORE Smith, 1974 is correct as airballer, satch not know where ELMORE BANTON now coaches but will GUESS it is on high school level in Ohio.

A small college in the Cleveland area. Narrow it down.
John Carroll University Assistant Coach
Interesting... Mark McClure was a graduate assistant coach at Ohio U at the same time I was one in 1992.

Brian, Did you see the story (fall XC '03) of McClure giving the Heimlich to a girl during a XC race who had a rock thrown back directly into her throat? On top of being a great guy, he is a hero of sorts.
To answer the question: Moe's main claim to fame is he was the first African-American to win a NCAA cross country title.
Great guy. He was a tough bastard back in the day.
