No, no, no. Not off of low mileage. 25 miles at 95%, you may as well run the whole damn thing. Off of low mileage this will destroy him. This type of workout is for 90-100 mpw runners.
I agree with the idea that 55-60 miles is enough (1 rest day). At 40+ I ran several marathons around 2:55 +\- 3 mins. with this mileage. Most at 7:30 pace. 12 milers on Wed. with 2 mins on/ 1 off x 10, long run Sunday up to 22 with 3-7 miles of MP. All other days as easy as necessary. Get to the start line healthy is rule #1. That said, I always wanted to get up to 65 mph (6 days), but would break down. 10 per day is good unless you make a living at it. Rob deCastella's plan is a good example of meat and potatoes running that didn't "wow" you with any one workout, but years of consistency brought success.
