Travis Adams did approx 14:30/30:20? in the mid 90s. Also dont forget those speedy Brannon twins one did 351 or so and the other was 150? or 151. And Eric Albright also did 1445 but he was even better in xc. The last 3 were local Delaware products- along with the silent assassin Bryan Denbrock(who shall never be forgiven for lapping me 3 times in one race hmph).
The real question is who was the best barefoot delaware runner ever! (if someone is/was faster than 1522 5k then that is actually not the real question after all heh)
The best barefoot runner ever? Wouldn't that also be the slowest jogging class runner ever? I still laugh at how you and I were introduced as two of the fastest guys in the school and then we proceeded to get our asses kicked by all the novice rec. joggers.
Here's a question, was the best barefoot runner also the smelliest runner ever? (just joking pigpen).
As for the Brannons, I told John last night that I'd embarras him on the board. 4:06 mile in a relay. 4:11 indoor mile and field house record holder. 3:52 1500 only to be bumped back on the list by twin brother Lee in his 5th year with a 3:51 (awww, John was out of eligability and couldn't defend himself). John also broke 25 in an 8K after college.

the problem with UD is that (at least post 80s) the guys on team were much better drinkers then runners...particularly late 90s (Bockius, McNally, Dempsey, Palmer, etc) followed by the new crop (Innis, Catella, etc)...as for stories...many a sunday run has been interesting...

When did you run there? The team had vastly improved in the 90's. Sure, they were pretty good drinkers, but the program has had pretty steady progress.
Still good drinkers. On a side note, you gotta toss Pat Riley into the mix. The dude had a kid for God's sake!
Just have to chime in here. I attended UD from 93-98 and ran with many of those already listed ( Barry P, both Brannens, Zack Chupa, Bockius). I was not born in DE so I don't qualify but I do get the nod for the best looking guy to ever put on a Blue hen singlet.
Capt-
I didn't know they ran a Nascar Race at the Fairgrounds.

I'll give you that. You also get the nod for what not to say when cut off by a motorist (at least one that is bigger than you ; )
I think they are up to having tractor pulls at the fairgrounds but not nascar... yet!
If by Delaware you mean the state of Delaware, not just the university, then you have to consider Craig Holm. He still holds the record of 1:04 on the old and more hilly Caesar Rodney Course 1/2 Marathon course. He was a three time U.S. Marathon Trials qualifer with a PR of 2:14.
Holm kicked the crap out of a bunch of people on river loop the other day.
It has to be Craig Holm. Do you know how hard it is to make 3 Olympic trials! Talk about consistency. And anyone who ever ran Caesar Rodney knows that a 1:04 is friggin unbelievable. Plus I run with the guy and at age 50 he's still running strong
Why should we care if he had a kid or not? I don't buy the hype with riley. I always thought the only reason he ever won a state championship is because he rested all day when other runners were doubling in the 800, mile, and/or 2 mile, and then won on fresh legs.
My vote goes to the Milford great, Chad Carpenter. Not only did the man some of the most beautiful long blonde hair you'll ever see (it sparkled) but he also was skinny as a rail. To top it off he ran 9:56 and 4:29 in hs, both Del. state records I believe.
I hope the thing about Chad Carpenter was a joke. That guy was a total loser and his times aren't anything special even for DE.
Second, you have to give Pat Riley props. Who cares if he won the 2 mile in HS? In college he has been the most successful DE runner in years. Last year at CAAs he was 2nd in XC behind Ed Moran and outdoors he ran 14:48/31:21-on the same day! I know those aren't top NCAA times, but 99% of the people on this board or in the country can't sniff those. And the guy woke up at around 5 am everyday in college to work before class, and practiced too. My sentimental favorite is Mike DiGennaro because he is 'wicked awesome'.
Plus Mr. Egbert is the only UD runner to write a book about his very legendary "exploits."
How's Michigan treatin' ya
Will be trading the cold Michigan winters for the sunny skies of Naples, Fla in July. Wedding in May and moving in July. Good to hear from you Steven.
Congrats on the wedding and glad to hear to things are going well. Knew a beach boy like you couldn't stay in the butt ass cold for long.
Finaly, the true champion speaks up!! Sinko defintely gets my vote for best mid distance runner turned marathoner. Again, nice run last fall.
I'll give another vote to Egbert for best birthday party from a Delaware runner.
Perhaps you can answer this question:
Is Delaware really a state or is it just made up by the government? I've heard it exists, but I've never met anyone from there, or heard of anything taking place there.
