This is such a dumb thread.
Kiprop of course. No one can beat Kiprop at any distance distance. He is the greatest distance runner of all time, IMO. Watch the videos.
Kiprop vs. Farah in the marathon. Who you got?
Kiprop won't beat Farah over 5km. I think Kiprop has great potential over 5000m but Farah has raced much better 5000m pedigree. Kiprop wouldn't be number 2 in the world either.
Kiprop's abilities are most likely 1:42 high, 3:26.5 and 12:50. He is more 800/1500 than 1500/5000.
Don't think that kiprop has the ability to run 12:50, sounds a bit too fast.
Iguider has both a fast 1500 and 5000 meters, but not faster as Farah.
3:28:79 vs 3:28:81 And 12:53:11 vs 12:59:25.
Don't think that Kiprop has the ability to run under 13:15.
He has a faster 800 and 1500 as Iguider, and has not run a fast 3000 - 5000m, first he must show the ability to run near 7:35 or 13:05 or win a diamond legeau.
Kiprop was world junior cross champ in 2007 (destroying Leonard Komon and Imane Merga, among others)-- he can handle a 5000 on the track.

In a time trial, I agree. But here's a list of Farah's winning 5k times in WC / OG
2011 WC - 13:23.36
2012 OG - 13:41.66
2013 WC - 13:26.98
2015 WC - 13:50.38
Average winning time of about 13:35.
At what point does Kiprop have the ability to outkick Farah? 13:20? 13:45?
I dont know anybody that wants to see this race.
This might be a good time to remember y'all about Paris 2003:
Hicham El Guerrouj went up to the 5000 to challenge Kenenisa Bekele.
Surprise: Eliud Kipchoge beat the both and got the gold.
And about this year: I predict Yomif Kejelcha will set a new WR even before the Olympics, Kiprop then stays at 1500 and Farah/Rupp both goes up to do the 10000/Marathon double - Rupp's already planing that because Salazar has seen the same future! :-P

A new world record in what?
Kiprop is faster than Guerrouj over the shorter distances, he will struggle at 5k.

Kiprop 2 vs Mo Farah 0. IAAF won't let Kiprop run the 5000m as they need Mo legend to grow for the sport and Kiprop gets the glamour event 1500m. But Kiprop destroys Mo at 1500 - 5000m.
Kiprop doesn't have the endurance to be good in the 5k, he's a 800/1500 runner, he's run 1:43
He might be decent at the 3k relative to his 1500m time (7:30-7:32), but to take Farah over 5k is a long shot
It's not like Farah doesn't have a similar 1500m time, he's only 2 secs off of him which really wont make that big of a difference in terms of finishing speed
Plus Farah has more experience closing fast over long distances and who's going to be more tired after 4600m? Plus the closing speed for 1500m and 5k really aren't that different (51 secs in the 1500m vs 52 seconds in the 5k)...
Kiprop CANNOT beat Farah in a championship or time trial 5k
Wow, my first thread and a nice bit of debating going on (and I made the main page) I'm no distance expert but I just thought Kiprop had to be reckoned with over 5k but the majority here think otherwise...thanks for all the replies.
Farah for the double then? Can't see anyone touching him, the bookies think the same, he is raging hot favourite for both!
Why would Kiprop do this? A 1500/5000 double is not possible.
Kiprop could beat Mo in a Mo-era championship 5k. Kiprop's speed should absolutely terrify Mo. Last year he won wire to wire in Monaco. He won from last place in the WCs.
But since we all know Mo won't push the pace or ever time trialing anything (except the indoor 2mi... ..) there is no point considering this option...
Mo is therefore clearly vulnerable at 5k.

Yes, it is NOT possible..
Hear that El G?
Oh... wait...
Farah would win in a 5000 showdown with Kiprop, regardless of whether the time is 12:45 or 13:45. Kiprop has a tiny edge over Farah when it comes to sustained speed over 1500. But the edge is very small, and if you watch all of Farah's races, it's not the long kick over the last 4 laps, or even the final 400. It's the final 75 meters. And in the final 75 meters, Kiprop won't keep up after 4,925 meters.
just the facts. wrote:

+1
If he could excel on an 8k cross country course as a teenager, he can run a shorter distance on the track as a grown man.
valid point there, id still like to see it happen though

If it's 13:45 pace or slower like it was last Olympics, my money is on Kiprop in the last 400.
I think Mo would have to go with a mile+ left instead of his usual 400 to win, but I really DON'T think he would do that.
It would be really interesting to see, though I doubt we will ever get that opportunity.
God it would be perfect if Kiprop forced Mo to run a hard 5k. Then we can all agree that Mo is a flash in the pan 12:5X bitch.
This is just blind hatred for Farah. Kiprop is not going to suddenly top a field of his fellow countrymen over 5000m let alone Farah. Kiprop can make a 1500m fast (Diamond League) but let's be honest, he usually sits and kicks in championships. What do you think he would do if he made the Olympic 5k final? Suddenly decide to take on a field of vetted distance runners at their own event and lead out from the gun?
Incredibly unlikely. If Kiprop ever beats Farah in a 5k (unlikely they would race) it is by sitting and kicking with his 1:43/3:26 speed.
