How about the women's 800m world recorder holder. I haven't heard any comments about her. It was run the early 1980s.
He believes in the drugs so much that he can't even run any more.
He runs in Ethiopia because there is a track there at 9000 feet that is about an hour from the airport and surrounded by trails.
By the new standards on these message boards (no African, NOP, Spanish, East European, former Eastern Bloc, Radcliffe), the all time clean records are
Men's
800: Coe
1500: Willis
5000: Solinsky
10,000: Solinsky
Women's
800 Jearl-Miles Clark
1500 Rowbury
5000 Sonia O'Sullivan
10,000 Ingrid Kristianson
Good job Western Europe, British Empire, and US! Just remember anyone who runs faster is cheating! Or, if not cheating with drugs, are effectively cheating because raised at altitude.

I don't know if she is clean or dirty, but I don't think it's unusual for people to be a bit suspicious when one coach coaches 3 world record holders at the same time. As other posters have brought up, he has coached or been in contact with 3 convicted dopers.
What response do you think would expect if Dennis Mitchell or Trevor graham coached three different sprinters to world records?
kinell. "been in contact" with three known dopers (who is the third btw).
Anyway, that number would include every single one of us on this planet who are interested in t&f
steve magness himself has worked with more than three dopers - one of his proudest moments would have been when he was allowed to bring a hollowed out book to Europe for Salazar

Come on, nobody on this messageboard really thinks Solinsky was clean.

Not really understanding the hate for Magness here. I'm sorry, but we all know about how common doping is in t&f and how easy it is for dopers to stay ahead of the testers; and we all know that Dibiba is head and shoulders above the rest of the world (which includes a lot of dopers) while training with a group that has ties to doping. It is far, far more likely that she is a doper rather than an untainted, one-in-a-lifetime outlier, and the odds that Magness is impugning the character of an innocent woman are almost nil.
It's not, at least for me, hate but not being professional. Magness can't seem to decide if he is an elite coach or a fanboy that wants to pretend he has inside knowledge about every athlete's drug use. If you want to be a professional coach, it is fine to make some statements of suspicion, but when you start tweeting out statements like this one, it isn't professional.
The whole idea that we can "know" what the clean records are is a little ridiculous to me. There are some clear outliers (Soviet Bloc etc.) but Dibaba doesn't look like a man. I have no problem questioning, or being suspicious, of her marks, but the idea that we can look at all of history and in effect determine who the most talented/hard working athlete of all-time is seems a little far-fetched.
I totally agree with this. Its funny how people assume because you dope you are going to be #1. Im sure there are plenty of dopers out there like mo trafeh who doped and were still not internationally viable athlete. Sure he was a good runner but far from winning on the international stage.

How dare you use common sense and not give us a conspiracy theory.

Yes. We talked lengthy over drinks. Her favourite is the turtle blood.

Drew Hunter should be questioned as well. Under the weather and still running sub 4 miles?
Or you could say, Ryun ran sub-4 (outdoors) 50 years ago and only a small handful of kids have done so since. Also, quite a few of us have run fast times while "sick," depending on the type of illness it's not necessarily unusual.

Maybe you've got it wrong and there is no negative implication at all. Maybe we should take the tweet for what it says, rather than fabricate sarcastic implications:
"two days after setting world record in the mile, Dibaba runs 2nd fastest indoor 3k in history (8:22)...Sure...why not..."
I completely agree. Sure! Why not? I would completely expect someone able to set an indoor world record in the mile, would be expected to be able to run a fast 3K, two days later, if not two hours later.
The women's indoor times are generally weak, while Dibiba has a history of being fast indoors. Her times are not excessively fast, especially given her best performance. If you want to use time to raise suspicion, her outdoor 1500m world record is the one to highlight, not these weaker indoor performances.
In any case, unless there is better evidence than what the BBC/Mark Daly/Epstein/Panorama presented, for me Magness lost a lot of credibility when demonstrating his unawareness of what constitutes an anti-doping violation under the jurisdiction of USADA under the WADA code.
So here is the supposed exchange:
@stevemagness
two days after setting world record in the mile, Dibaba runs 2nd fastest indoor 3k in history (8:22)...Sure...why not...
â€@Swift__Girl
@stevemagness ha we are on the same page here Steve! She gives no f.ucks!
â€@stevemagness
@Swift__Girl haha, yep, that sums it up...The arrogance of it all is astounding.
I mean, what on earth are they even talking about?

Magness is a tool who squandered his talent.
I'm no athlete or coach. Just a hobby jogger at a local store club that employs one of Canada's past Olympic marathoners and another Olympic hopeful. But I've seen the documentaries that shone a light on systemic Russian doping, showed images of Kenyan's lining up for needles in the ass, and brought the IAAF and Coe into hot water. I have absolutely no doubt now that the current marathon world record is a DIRTY one. And having seen the scandal at the NOP and looking around me more, I must admit that I can't give these guys like Genzebe and Rupp the benefit of the doubt anymore (where once I could). That's how low this sport has sunk. The IAAF has hard work to do and a lot of relationships to burn if they're going to save this sport. Whistle blowers like Magness will always come under a lot of criticism, but the investigations and canceled sponsorships from Adidas are good signs that it's time to pull collective heads out of the sand. As far as I'm concerned, until anti-doping systems in all 214 IAAF member federations are truly tight and tough, the burden of proof lies smack on the top performers themselves, not on their skeptics.
