That being said, he has been here since he was 10 - 11 (as young as Meb was when he came to the US) so I really don't know why anybody has a problem with him being recognized as a HS record holder.
It amazes me how dumb this logic is. So Mo Farah has been living here since 2011. 5 years is a long time. So if he wins the Olympics, you want us to celebrate it as an "American professional gold medal?"
It's an Olympic sport. Olympic sports are focused on nationalities.
It's nearly incomprehensible to me that you could call me (or anyone for that matter) an idiot. The way that you report information could at best be described as tabloid journalism.
The fact that the core tenets of your defense were statements centered around the Olympics being a nationalistic event, and by your warped view of extension, the entire sport of track and field, at all levels, only being able to be viewed, judged, and evaluated, on a nationalistic level, is indicative of a poor grasp of basic logical arguments. Honestly, it shows that you are completely incapable of understanding how an entity/institution or organization could be US-based but not US-restricted. I bet it's beyond your scope of reasoning to understand how Dirk Nowitzki & Steve Nash each won the MVP award for the U.S.'s National Basketball Association.
Or maybe you understand that these guys won the award, but you care more about scrolling down the list to the highest ranking player born in the U.S. I get it. You have pride in your country. We all do. But it makes you guys look pretty bad as a whole.
You have such a great platform, that's powered in-large part by the people. It takes very little to stay out of the way and garner respect. Instead, you impose your will article by article, and try to make everyone else share the same narrow-minded opinions you hold.
There are tons of eloquently-written, articulate, and pointed responses on this thread. You should at least be able to understand the difference between real world journalism, and 'your stuff.' The sad thing is that I don't think you do understand.
In any case, congratulations to Andrew Hunter for being the HIGH SCHOOL RECORD HOLDER. I guess we can all take solace in the fact that Hunter will make the record very difficult for the next foreigner to break -- and that should help you sleep at night, and shelter us from your ignorance at the same time.
