Rupp should run the Olympic marathon trials -- no chance to make US team for World indoors anyway.

And I'm not going to insult Galen Rupp by even looking up a head to head record of Rupp versus Will Geohegan. That's laughable.

Rupp also has better 1500 pbs than Hill, True, Jenkins and Lagat (post 40). Same thing is true for 3000.

If Rupp wants to make the team, he'll be on it.

A source told me Rupp would run the marathon Trials and World indoors. Now that would impress me. Rupp might lose to the guys at USAs if he's coming back from the marathon Trials. Otherwise, he's going to be top 2.

Weldon never posts on here. He's driving back from the Holidays. Looks like OP is in Michigan. I doubt it's Ritz as Ritz doesn't want Rupp in those Trials.

Rupp was 4th at world's 3k last time. Of course he has a chance to make the team.

Ah that is plenty of time, even if he was entirely trained for the marathon.

rupp ran his finest 5k ever at the worlds. after a full effort nasty 10k which had to take something off. so rupp really might have medaled just going for the 5k alone.

i cant see a guy that can run 332 1500 m medaling in the marathon. no way. it has never happened.

marathon training is to run at 440 per mile pace vs 5000 training is for strength enough to throe down a 148 800 m finish.

do not try to do both.

so rupp is stuck with the 10k 5 k double.

Regarding Rupp in the 3000m race:

Rupp has run 3:50.xx for the mile indoors, and sub-13 outdoors for the 5000m. Almost no one who will enter this race has done either, and Lagat is fading. On top of that, this is a distance between mile and 5000m -- It stands to reason that if Rupp is better than most or all on the low end and the high end, he'll be better in the middle (3000m). And, as I recall, didn't Rupp run a 2-mile American Record?

Rupp also runs his best indoors.

The marathon trials is a concern. 4 weeks is really only 2 -- the first will be spent on rest and recovery, the last will be taper. However, even with only 4 weeks to come down from the marathon trials, I think Rupp's raw talent is enough.

Taper for world Indoor trials? More likely he'll workout after the race.

you've clearly never heard of Eluid Kipchoge then... 1500m PR 3.33 Mile PR 3.50 Marathon PR 2.04.00 AND a favourite for the gold at Rio

Now I'm not saying Rupp will be as good as Kipchoge but just highlighting this guys ignorance

More importantly, Rupp has run 7:30.1 and 13:01 indoors. Nonsense talking about him not making it if he wants too.

Rupp is made for the marathon, why people don't see that is beyond me.

The marathon trials will probably be tactical, which will help Rupp alot. If the leaders pace it around 2:10 early, then Rupp can just keep notching up the speed over the last 10K until there is just 3 remaining runners, at which point they can cruise it in together.

Sure this will take a toll on Rupp, but he only needs top 3 at marathon trials. I don't think he will have dig to deep to lock-down third, and so at the same time keep himself rested for some speedwork on the indoor track.
