Cotton and Bijan are going for a nationals qualifier in the 5k this Saturday at Smith
Who knows if they are going to really hit a fast time, or just try to run 14:25 and qualify? It could be tough mentally for Bijan to keep going 2 weeks after the season for a take-no-prisoners 5k.
Cotton soloed 14:20-something a few weeks back, so I am sure if he ran with people he could be around or under 14:10 at least, although this is on an indoor track.
Good luck guys!
even a 14:25 on a flat track would be pretty good, considering that would put them under 14:20 on a banked or outdoor track at the very beginning of the season.
It's possible one of the 1600's was 4:26, rather than 4:27, as I didn't stop my watch. But when I looked down at my watch at each 1600 split, 4:27/8:54/13:21 were the times. Hard to believe, which is why it stuck in my memory.

What about the DMR? Times and predictions? Also, is nationals going to be on a banked or flat track? I feel it being on a flat track really f*ked over alot of peoples times
Oh man, here comes the annual argument over flat and banked tracks.
Grinnell has a flat track for nationals.
Hooray, now everyones times in the east coast are going to be undermined (-:
(However I heard a new facility in staten island has a hydraulic track, which can convert a banked track to a flat one!!!)

True. Their first college meet will be this weekend.
Also, the conversions are the same whether nationals is on a banked or flat track. If nationals is flat, they add to banked times. If nationals is banked, they take off of flat times. Both have an identical impact on qualifying. I am amazed how often this needs to be explained.
Will St Olaf have a good DMR? I suspect Campbell will stick with 5k and/or 3k, but I could see Escher and any of their other returning nationals 1500 guys putting together a contending DMR, obviously spearheaded by the best guy in the nation on the most important leg.

Hey Patrick, remember that Smith has a purple-ish color track so you should try to color coordinate with that.
Has running a qualifier in December ever gone well for anyone? Absurd that the qualifying window opens in December. A person's fitness in December isn't a great indicator how they will perform in mid-March. If you can't run, jump, or throw a qualifying mark within 2 months of the meet, you shouldn't be at the national meet. The NCAA should pay a bit more attention to the academic calendar too. Why not make track a one semester sport instead of having it span over two semesters with the season beginning during finals.
It's true having the window open in January only helps distance runners or middle distance guys who peak way way too early.

Was the 5k on a banked track or not?
Flat track. About the only impressive performance of the meet.
