I'm in a running club with old people who have been running marathons for years. They look awesome, move well and seem healthy. Surely as they close in on the average age of death (about 78-80) something will eventually kill them, but their moving and having fun. Occasionally, runners do have heart problems, but they would have had those problems anyway, statistically. Some runners die young of a heart problem, but statistics say this will happen on occasion as well. Some people are born with problems that don't show up until they exercise a lot.
Some of the new diets people are trying while running long distances might be a problem for some. My friend tried running while eating very little carbs (like almost none) and ended up with an arrhythmia. She got better after she started eating enough carbs.
