getting slower

High School Running

So i raced about 3 weeks ago, I felt amazing and ran a 16:52.

We took the next weekend off from racing bit still practiced.

The following week at our conference meet, I felt awful, it was freezing cold, I ran a 17:25. Course has 2 big hills.

We started to taper this week, district race(at the same course as our conference meet), it was really windy, I felt awful, after the first mile I died, despite my first mile being only 4 seconds faster than the previous week. Ended up running an 18:08.

Why the hell am I getting so slow? Any input would be appreciated

Maybe your iron levels or the course itself?

Is there any way to tell if your irons low besides getting your blood tested? Like symptoms and such? Thanks

Nope. Blood test is the only way, but make sure you get ferritin tested if you do it.

Quick question, at what point in a race would your iron levels start effecting your performance?

Looks like your iron levels are already affecting your writing. Go see a physician.

Staleness in performance can come from running easy days too fast and not recovering.

Some people don't work as well with tapering either. I know I can't taper too much.

If your body feels bad, make sure you run easy, and maybe get a blood test if you feel it's something rather than muscle fatigue. Check for iron, Lyme, other irregularities.

I run my easy days easier than anyone I know so I'm pretty sure that isn't it, tapering though might be, thanks.

I'm the same way, I can't taper too much or I'll just feel stale.
