proper training, 56-57 will get you there.
as someone who runs 56, 2:08, and 18:30 5k, what would that sort of training entail? 40 mpw doesn't seem to be doing much for me.
You're not angry enough. Don't worry about 400 times, you're on 800 runner. You need to run your 400 reps on rage. That way, you'll be able to run the 800 on pure hate. I expect about a 1:45 this winter if you follow my advice.

You could technically run that off of 58 second but your specific endurance would need to be boss.
If you could get down to 56 or faster that will help a lot.
Ran 2:05 with no mileage and a 56s 400m. I just did lots of speed endurance workouts and reps at goal pace with minute recoveries or so
