What consistency!
What consistency!
EK was 18 when he beat El G and Bekele.
And even if he was "18", he was still young.
His performances in the marathon are an example what what Bekele could have done if he moved up earlier (or, not gotten hurt in 2008/post-2008 and moved up)

He was one of the most consistent 5000m runners on the track as well.
He's long been one of my favorites. That 2003 WC 5000m was one of the greatest races of all time. There is no one I'd like to see win an Olympic Gold more than Eliud.
Just for the hell of it he should keep going after the 2:04 point and see how far he gets before slowing down. Probably smash the 50k world best.
agree. Depends on how he handles the heat in Rio?!?!?
It would be nice to compare his training vs the other guys.
Probably not too much different than others. It's just that he absorbs the training differently. He does high volume. 200km a week with big workouts (15 X mile @ 4:30).
Ultra runners think they're tough. Any elite marathoner would leave them coughing dust.
Not sure we're to the point where there's a case to be made for Kipchoge as the GOAT of distance runners - Kipchoge's PRs from 1500m to the marathon are very impressive, but Geb has him beat at every damn distance - but the combination of beating K Bekele and El G at 5000m when they were at their best, and beating Kipsang and Kimmetto at the marathon when they were at/near their best is amazing. Really hope Kipchoge gets a chance to set a WR.

I agree; don't think he's Gerrouj/Bekele/Haile level but he is definitely up with Tergat/Lagat/Farah IMO. Don't know where other marathoners fall here (Wanjiru Kimetto Kebede Mutais Kipsang)
Eliud caught El G/Bekele off guard b/c they weren't aware of his kick. It basically the equivalent of Jelan running down Farah.
I don't about GOAT but he's probably has the GOAT running form.....especially of a marathoner. Runs like a well oiled machine.
How do you exactly catch a 3:26 man off guard in a sprint? It's not like El guerrouj had a weak PB or something. Kipchoge even got boxed somewhere in the homestraight before the bell. Also he beat Bekele and I wouldn't call 12:52 exactly a slow race.
Credit where is due man.

The 2003 WC 5000m was one of the great races of all timeeee! How could a teenager defeat EL G & KB in a "fast" 5000m WC race!!!? Kipchoge is a prodigy in every sense... Supremely talented!

Amen to that! 2003 WC 5000m
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjlqokZ_XgkWhat's more, the 9th, 10th and 11th fastest times in the history of mankind belongs to the myth Kipchoge.

EPO is one hell of a drug.
Pretty impressive when you consider that Kipchoge has beaten the 1500m, 5000m, 10000m and marathon world record holders during his career

You haven't made it until someone accuses you of PED use.
