Someone brought up Jim Fixx in a conversation at work today. I was asked if he got "fast" after taking up running on his 30's. Google search didn't turn up any info, anyone have data on his PRs?

I don't really remember but I thought that he ran 10 miles a day at 6:00 pace. It's been a while since I've read his book or read about him at all. No idea about his PRs.
He ran alongside Boston billy at 5 minute mile pace in the book, don't know for how long.
He slowed down a lot after the heart attack
Wiki says he was 35 and 60 pounds overweight when he started running, also kicking a two-pack/day smoking habit. I doubt his PRs were any great shakes and I doubt very much her was regularly running 60-minute ten-milers.

I am going off of memory because I'm at work and I thought that I had the book here (but apparently I don't), but I thought that in the book he said something to the effect of "now, I just run 10 miles a day and those 60 minutes are the best 60 minutes of my day" or something like that.
It's funny, I actually know a guy who was about 35 and 60lbs overweight when he started running and (still) runs about 80 miles a week at 6:00 pace. He's never run faster than 2:42 in the marathon but he still runs all his runs at the same pace. He's now in his later 40s and a just saw him not that long ago burning up a run haha.
His fastest marathon was about 3:12. It was wind-aided and downhill.
On the jacket of The Complete Book of Running, he said that he won the Connecticut 10,000-meter championship in his age group, but I don't believe that he came close to cracking forty minutes.
His legs looked great on the covers of his books, but they didn't produce any great times.
Fixx was slow. Outside 3 as mentioned and he only ran for a short time at Billy's MP to see what it felt like.
