Manager is calling me in for a meeting on Thursday for a meeting with me and I think I'm going to get fired.
About a month ago my manager warned me about customer complaints that may lead to disciplinary action.
What should I do? Resign or just wait to be fired?
If it's a possibility, how much sense would it make to write up a resignation letter for Thursday just in case?
So it's Thursday now
He's probably drowning his tears with alcohol right now and getting shit-faced in a bar.
We'll get a drunk post around 6 or 7 pm about what happened.
A. If you are in sales and you get fired then you get to loot the customer base for the new outfit. (At least in my state and I was good enough at it that the first place tried to hire me back right after they fired the guy who had fired me. By then I knew of three significant wrongful termination lawsuits that they had come out on the wrong side of and I mentioned the lawyers names and said I thought I should consult with them first. This because I was already working half as hard for twice as much money anyway.) Also Point B applies with this particular outfit as well.
If you resign and try to take accounts with you then they can come after you for that just about anywhere. At the top of the sales profession that can screw you up for the rest of your career.
B. Your mileage may vary, but every place that I was ever terminated from involuntarily was out of business within five years. Today I can say whatever I want about the circumstances of my separations. If the CEO ends up getting prosecuted (yes that happened too,) so much the better!
C. If they fire you and you do collect UE, this may result in them paying higher premiums for the UE going forward. If they treat lots of people this way, then it almost certainly will. Until 2013 I had collected exactly one UE check in 30 years and it was done just to jack their premiums.
D. The coup de grace is to show up at the Final Auction of the place that toasted you with a whole lot of cash from the place that you relocated their former customers too. I've been there and done that too.
It probably sounds cooler on a message board post than it really was, but it was sure worth taking the day off for! Remember, they would do the exact same thing to you and they already proved it too!
E. They still may cut you a decent severance check no matter how much they are tired of your bull$nit. Especially at a big company.
This advice would apply just about anywhere in the private sector after Reagan let them loot all the pensions right down to cinders. On the other hand if you are working for the County, the School District or the Forest Service in east Bumf*ck Oklahoma and the only other jobs out there are night auditor at a roach motel twenty hours a week then you just sit there, nod and tell them you will try to do better going forward.
Best of luck. It is harder to intimidate people by threatening to fire them when they have already been fired and come out OK a few times before.
what a joke this was!
1.) Bump.
2.) Did ya get fired or nah?
He asked me to pass along the message that he no longer had access to his company pc and phone and is unable to post. He'll be back as soon as he picks up a new phone.

When I was young and naïve I had someone tell me that he wouldn't even want to have someone working for him to begin with who didn't have the initiative to do this on his way out the door...
