This chick is NO medal Favorite, won't make the final.

The only medal favorite is Sum, and she is beatable. It's hard to pick a favorite in the rest of the field. So Molly has a chance, probably better than Alysia who's not in shape yet. But I still think Brenda will peak for World's with the best chance for a medal of the three US runners and a possibility of a Gold.

Nah, I'm pretty sure she'll do THAT considering she is consistently running sub 2.
1:57 is impressive, whatever the conditions.
But Rojo is right to be skeptical that this time is "equal" to a DL or Championship 1:57. And as another poster pointed out, the most significant factors that simply are not reproduced in a time trial of this nature are the changes of pace and physical contact that every 800m race involves.
That having been said, I see no reason, given this time trial and her Paris DL performance (which I would say are roughly "equal" to one another), that she cannot medal at worlds. 1:58 is strong, and I would say it's rare for 1:58 800m runner *not* to have a serious shot at a Championship medal. The real X-factor isn't anything that a PR can tell you, but how well she will handle rounds and what sort of tactics she will bring to them.
As a general question: how many of you all would run a time trial like this 12ish days removed from the actual race?
I ask this just because part of me thinks there is more value to be had in other workouts, like 4x400 all out with ample rest, that are more obviously geared towards sharpening the legs rather than giving one a kind of "heat check" of one's fitness. At this point, it seems to me, running a time trial 800m can only tell you, at best, what you already know--that you're in good shape, or if it doesn't go well, that you're not.
Impressive time, but you've gotta know how to WIN. Would sure love to see Price and Ajee in the mix.
Male pacer's name is Dustin Spanbauer. He's an excellent coach and trainer for Team Indiana Elite and the IU Run Club.

this is no real surprise
the problem is circuit races are generally crap with inadequate pacers, usually off too fast at near 56+, then dramatic slowing with lot of jostling & often some extra distance run wide on bends
this just indicates what true potential some of the elite gals have when getting an unimpeded race with a strong pacer
i do believe there shoud be lot more 1'56+ gals currently if they got a near "perfect" race
Let's also not forget there are 3 rounds...

Rolling start.

I agree.
I prefer a 600 TT or 700 at race pace rather than a full-out race effort 800.
Probably was drafting off a Little 500 biking team for that time. Worth a 1:58 at best.

add half a second - still a PR
Seems like she struggles tactically. She won't make the finals in Beijing. Its actually a lot easier to run a solo 800 like that. She a pretty and photogenic young lady though.

it most definitely is not easier to run a solo 800 than one in a race. she wasn't solo though anyway, she had a pacer for the whole race.
If it was so easy to pr in practice in the 800m, why don't we see a lot more of these? Even men could get pacers for the whole way if they just have one guy run the first lap and another guy run the second with them. She has got to be in great shape. Nick Willis was in 1500m pr shape (as proved several days later at Monaco) when he ran his 1:46 time trial with pacers. He said that he wasn't doing speed sharpening until after Monaco, but in any case it just shows how hard it is to do. Now, they said that El G ran 1:42 in practice. I believe that. He had great pacers and was a 3:26 guy who closed a world or Olympic (2004?) 1500m in 1:46.
Time trial is not rounds of the world champs! No way she makes the final
Not a medal favorite, but I see only Sum and a re-androgenized Semenya as out of Beckwith's league. Martinez seems off this year.
From 4th at USAs to a medal would be amazing.
Is that...
...no it can't be...
...I think it is maybe...
....surely not...
...is that Mike Rossi pacing her?

There's a lot to be said for confidence. Perhaps now she's confident that she can hang even in a fast race.
