My GF is a dream customer for shoe companies to influence. Buys way too much gear. One of the rare casual runners who also has any interest whatsoever in the pro side of the sport. (Which is made easier when athletes actually act like pros and do interviews.) She never ran seriously but now knows a few athletes' names because of watching big meets with me.
She knows Blankenship as this shaggy underdog late-bloomer renegade type, and actually cheered for him in the race. (She says it helps that he's the only distinctive-looking guy out there). Was sad he placed fourth.
After hearing about the fence-jumping, though: "What a loser. Solomon didn't do that."
