Wow all this talk of New Zealand sure makes me excited to get back in July. How I do love the entire country. I have a great video piece that features Jack Foster, Arthur Lydiard, John Walker and a few other New Zealand runners. You can't believe some of the mountains it shows Jack running, both up and an incredible downhill run. I can't believe Jack didn't go through alot of shoes, running the terrain this video shows.
I'm with you. Had a great time there last August. The flight is a killer though.
I've seen that video as well. Jack should have ahd a parachute for that last hill. Forget shoes.
Funny you should mention the video with Jack running on a Mountain.
Colin Smyth was talking with me about that film just 2 days ago . It was a "Jack up" (excuse the pun). The Mountain is Tarawera, a volcano that blew in 1886. The film crew asked Jack to run there for the Movie they were making for "Educational purposes". Same with the bits of him running in Thermal areas.
Colin said what upset Jack about the whole deal is he was at the Movies some months later and lo and behold what did they show as a Trailer .. The Movie containing him and the others.
Guess how much he recieved in Payment ... Yes, thats right .. Nothing !!!
So much for "Educational purposes" !!!!
Jack never ran in those areas shown in that film clip normally. 99% of his running was on local farm land, the forest and the local horse race track.
