Oregon is absolutely gaming the system with its scholarship money. Anyone who doesn't think that is deluded.

And as was posted in the post that you quoted, Oregon has a long way to go to catch Arkansas' history.
Oregon Fans are alike Lakers Fans, Cowboys Fans, and Raiders Fans. They literally have no appreciation/respect of the sport and the other competitors.
Why do you keep starting these threads? You're obsessed.

Top program? yes.....Top Coaching?....Jury is out.....and will continue to be out. Until Nike stops its money laundering, through the duck hole, and I see them develop a kid thats not foreign or not a top 3 hs kid (lets not say their "good recruiters" because they dont recruit, their facilities do), then ill concede they have top coaching. Until then. NO SALE!

Ever heard of Bill Bowerman?
I'm a little disappointed that Powell rarely lets his dawgs off the leash to run some fast times, but it makes sense. You'd rather have them ready to perform on the day and win a title than being distracted by chasing times. Also you can't really say that they don't chase times at all. Ches ran two all out races last year which are his 3:36 and 13:18 losses to Lawi. He also had Jenkins and Geoghegan go all out in the Millrose 3k.
And on the flipside, nobody complains about Wetmore never having his guys go all out. You never see them putting up crazy times on the track. Saarel could probably run 3:38 but he's always in sit and kick races.
Interesting that the statistics taken from the usftcca figures start the season after McDonnell retired.
And to think, Phil Knight asked him to be Oregon's coach....... but that's another topic altogether.

Even if you expand way beyond top 3, the following NCAA qualifiers from Oregon were no where near pure blue chip recurits (high school or transfer)
Men
Daniel Winn
Arthur Delaney
Trevor Ferguson
Greg Skipper
Dakotah Keys
Mitch Modin
Joe Delgado
Women
Ashley Maton
Lauren Crockett
Brittany Mann
Several other athletes that were just outside or near top-10 rankings in high school that have improved well.
If you look at most of the top teams, you're going to find most of their points come from high school, foreign, or transfer studs. That's just the reality of the NCAA.
I'm not saying Oregon is doing the best job of developing athletes out there, but it is clear they are managing talent very well and developing athletes fairly well. The issue with those that want to do nothing but criticize is they will write off the very top athletes as blue-chippers no one could go wrong with; they will write off the worst to best high school athletes as just dumb luck, only leaving a very narrow range of athletes whose success they will even consider attributing to a good coach.
This is one of the Outdoor lists (women) that the Oregon fans don't want to talk about:
http://www.ncaa.com/history/trackfield-outdoor-women/d1
In the last 20 years, Pat Henry has won about 10 titles, USC, UCLA, and Arizona State each have 1.
Oregon has ZERO
And here's the men's outdoor list. Oregon won last year, but the previous time was 30 years ago. There are about 6 schools that are more dominant than Oregon:

Those that can, do. Those that can't whine on letsrun. If you want to claim to be dominant, why don't you compare your outdoor championships with Pat Henry's.
Agreed. Pat Henry's track record of coaching both men and women's NCAA D1 Championship teams (at LSU and aTm) is phenomenal.
McDonnell still has the most overall with the men but Henry is closing when combining both men and women.
These coaches are great for a reason. They are ALWAYS working to win. I know John well, and I can tell you I've never met another man who can match his competitive fire (or business acumen). I've never met Henry, but I would lay odds that he's very similar.
I was blessed to be around John, not because he was a great coach, but because he taught me so much about being competitive, fair and successful after we stepped off the track.

coach d, way to set up your own straw man and knock it down. Where are all the posts saying that Oregon has had more outdoor track success than A&M etc.? A&M, the Arkansas teams of the past, etc. set standards in outdoor track that everyone is still chasing. There are several very strong programs that mix it up annually. Being a fan of one school doesn't mean you don't recognize the success somewhere else. That being said, one national title can be like lighting in a bottle. I'd take the current, and last decade, of Oregon track over one national out door title from Arizona State or USC.
Whatever. D can put me in jail. I don't care. Go for it. It is better than this life. I was healthier when I was in a place where you couldn't hurt me.
Your taking the term "top 3" way too literally. Brittany Mann is what your considering a non-blue chipper? So being able to qualify for the NCAA championships as a senior in HS, coming to College and qualifying for the NCAA championships is what Oregon considers development? Is that how out of touch Phil Knights neverland ranch is? Im talking about the kind of development that Ashland University's program sees. Southern Illinois, Kent State, UTSA, Places that have no business being successful but are on a continuous basis. However if through a "private gift" you can drop 70 million on a new "training center" You get no points for "recruiting". You get no points for "developement" because getting national level kids...to go to nationals...is the diet coke of coaching.
