Well, I think it's safe to say neither of us can support a claim as to what Gebreselassie "preferred". He probably would have preferred to beat KB in 03, right? :)
Prefered to beat Kenenisa Bekele in 2003 in comparison to what? In comparson to loosing against him? I think so...
I was talking - for example - for 1995. Gebrselassie won in great stile the 10000m in Gothenborg. Then he skipped the 5000m. Do you think he feared the competition? (medalists: Ismael Kirui, Khalid Boulami, Shem Kororia - great runners, yes, but not close to the Gebrselassie from 1995 onwards). He surely had the plan the break the WR in Zürich a few days after the champs, Which he did in sensational stile.
It's pretty safe to state that Gebrselassie easily was capable of doing the 5k/10k double. But he hasn't, and I don't put an achievement on his cards which he hasn't done. But it's still a big difference to Farah, who (so far) was far away from winning at two Olympic Games.
I definitely disagree in your statement that Kenenisa Bekele is the greatest distance runner in history. It's still Gebrselassie. Please look at all his achievements.
