no carbs, a good amount of protein, lotsa fat
cheese, meat and spinach, basically
Ok I may be slow but I am not THAT "slow"
I won't eat this way, but my older brother switched last year. He only eats "good" fats, meat and some limited veggies. He eats a lot of butter. He adds butter to butter. He was always a fit guy, but now, he's crazy ripped. it' show he got rid of the littl ebit of fat around his middle.
It makes me somewhat tempted to try it, but I just couldn't stand a diet of meat and fat. I guess I'd rather not be ripped than eat that much meat and fats. And I like beer.

Stop running slowly, do HIIT instead. And lift heavy weight. You will become buff.
Thanks. Which are better for my goal: pork ribs or ribeye steaks?
Ribeye, bro. Real men eat beef.
It would be great to eat nothing but butter and meat. I mean, that is the dream.
But in my experience I have problems doing anything in extremes. I always "crash."
But I am obviously not disciplined nor educated enough to get rid of this stupid jelly around my waist.
This will be changing soon . .. LRC be helping me out here.
Fake xfit guy is trolling but still correct. Eat meat and give up grains as much as possible. Meat is a "filling" meal whereas carbohydrates make you crave more food, so you don't need discipline, except maybe to eat enough.
Use the extra protein by building muscle to increase your caloric needs.
Give up soybeans if you can, because they contain phytoestrogens. It's hard to avoid soy, they put it in nearly everything.
What do the phytoestrogens do?
I have no problem eating more meat and less bread. Are we talking lean cut and chicken, or little miss piggy and ribeye? Is fruit ok or is it as bad as bread?
Are you single or married?
Asking, because,
Following a diet is tougher if you are married because your spouse actually might not support it. It requires a lot of work.
My problem is constantly craving chocolate. I need a chocolate bar right now. I'm at 24 BMI so not good for a distance runner.
soy in everything?
I find the most disgusting foods anything with "mono-diglycerides". That stuff has to be bad for you. It is in EVERYTHING. They basically replaced trans-fats with mono-diglycerides (also called "dough softeners" often).

That is something I didn't think of.
Funny thing is that my wife is 3 months pregnant, so I pretty much make whatever she wants and if I don't like that I can make my own food (I am a terrible cook so she doesn't have many options).
She will support what I eat. She thinks I am starving myself lately because I eat almost half of what I did before, which was about 3x too much.
I am with you 100% on the chocolate thing. That stuff is worse than crack. She hides it from me but I can find it anywhere in the house in about 2 minutes flat.

Lolz I don't even drive that far in a week.
When I mean slowly, it is by lrc standards.
I think seeing someone about nutrition is my best bet right now.
Most people on LRC are slow, even if most claim they are sub-14 5k runners.
I am in my early 30's and have been "skinny fat" for a while now. My arms and legs are pretty lean but I still have a little gut that won't die.
I don't drink alcohol and run about 40 to 50 mpw (slowly). I try to eat balanced but don't know much about nutrition.
What is the most likely culprit here? How do I get rid of this piece of crap belly!?[/quote]
Just HIIT it sprint... meters then walk or jog ... meters you can repeat it like for 10 times
For the love of God, PLEASE keep us updated on your progress. I have this same problem (can't get rid of the pudge in the mid-section, despite exercising way more than the thin people in the gym).
I haven't eaten much fried foods, processed / refined foods, soy, or sugar in years. So although cutting those way back may be the necessary fix for some people, my problem goes beyond that.
I'm at about 40-42mpw right now. I'd love to push it higher, but it seems like anytime I go above about 6 miles per day I am prone to injury.
Dying to hear more suggestions!

They mimic estrogen. The effects are controversial mainly because they haven't been studied enough. Some say they're safe, but nobody really knows.
What is known is that soy has not been widely consumed outside of Asia for more than 100 years or so. It's too toxic for humans without fermenting it or soaking it in hexane. It's the ultimate processed food.
I have a feeling that this thread was started by Xfit_guy so he could have a platform for trolling.

So it worked for your brother but you won't do it. You're looking for shortcuts that don't exist.
You're a moron.

Today's domesticated fruits are nothing like what our Paleo ancestors ate. They are full of sugar that makes you fat.

I will definitely. I am getting a lot of different but good information here.
BTW this is no troll. This is a skinny fat dude :)

I clearly said I'd rather not be ripped than eat like that. I'm not looking for a short cut, I'm looking to enjoy my life. Eating nothing but meat and butter is my idea of misery. I admit that I'd rather enjoy a croissant and coffee than have 6 pack abs. But, I am also lighter than my brother and I run a lot faster than him. I like running fast, which you just can't do without carbs. Running fast makes me happy. Almost as happy as a varied and delicious diet that includes bread - bring on the delicious gluten... and speed.
