You are imposing this idea on him. Maybe he felt like the other players had better scoring opportunities than him in those moments. Now that is actually a trait of the best (team player) - don't be too proud or selfish to pass the ball.
There's the difference. The best players always want the ball at the end. They find a way to win. For MJ 9 times out of 10 that included him doing some magic. But that 1 time when you're not expecting it he shoots it over to Kerr in the corner for the three.
