The guy that built the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem,NC started it out as a practice track for himself and then expanded it$ it is in an old remodeled Josten's Yearbook factory and has already hosted many major indoor meets so far.

Stone knows that. It's a great track.

Word. And since PK once said he was a surrogate father for GR, GR has one too ;)

Where is this, what state?
Western PA.
Similar, I construct my own snowshoe running trails on my property and adjacent public land. Run over them in snowshoes to define and pack the snow. Sometimes would run over them pulling a flat bottom sled to smooth them out (last loop of day so the snow would set up firm overnight).
Have to redo after big snowfalls, but at least there is a firm set base of snow underneath.
Do not have to clear any branches or vegetation. That would not be good on public land. Just follow natural openings in the trees.
Trails disappear every spring.
This is at 10,000' elevation in CO with 300+ inches of snow a year.
Some of these routes are just pine needle covered in the summer and I run them.
Have various distances measured out 100M to 3K.
A half-pipe doesn't cost that much in relation to a track, if you want a 21 foot one, wooden, your looking at maybe $60,000. I mean if you count Bekele's, than yes a runner does have his own track.
I built an 800 meter clay track that encircles four smaller than normal soccer fields at a park near my house. I built it at around the same time the fields were being installed and paid for it out of my own pocket. Nobody ever questioned me, I think the workers thought it was all part of the plan and the site manager seemed to think I was some contractor the city must have hired. "I can't believe that you do this sort of work solo all year long!"It was about a 3 week project but definitely worth it. I now have a precisely measured, completely flat loop of 800 meters to work out on, with stakes every 50 meters and 250 meter straightaways. It's only about 3 lanes wide but that makes no difference to me. The soft surface I think really makes a difference in terms of recovery, and it only takes 2 weekends or so of moderate maintenance a year. Nothing like a one loop 800 meter time trial.
Where is this?Sounds idyllic.
