I like the inside joke and all but the execution is abominable. At what point do you guys actually pay someone money to do some design work?
Agreed.
When I looked through the pages of examples that were all offered for the design ideas, some of them were awkward and/or lame. Many were quite nice. A few were professional, cool-looking, and sharp.
However, I would have probably paid up for almost any of them. It would have taken a really crappy idea to turn me away. And that is what you offered.
I don't want to put down the Brojos or the rest of the team, and I hope this is taken as criticism only as from the viewpoint of a long-time regular and a fan of what you do for the sport... but the shirt really is poor. It reminds me of a really bad t-shirt from a 5k; the type you know you will be wearing next time you paint the house or build a gazebo. It is not something I would want to wear as a cool casual t-shirt as I'm going about my day. It is garish, loud, unappealing, and looks like you went out of your way to be as ugly and unartistic as possible. Sorry.
Over 80% of the design ideas were clearly better than this. Maybe 90%. At least half a dozen were really sharp looking, if maybe "boring." If you want the Rupp joke on the shirt, it would be better in quite small print at the bottom right corner of the back or something; understated, like the inside joke it is. That would make it work better.
Finally, not using the logo that you have spent well over a decade with is a disjointed marketing strategy. It is a recognizable logo. You are missing the chance to build on that, which adds value to the brand.
Man, a 15 buck tshirt gets analyzed like something that landed from outer space.
If you don't like the tshirt don't buy it. Do you also walk through various clothing stores telling them what suits your personal preferences?
And Malmo, quit being such a grumpy f_ck.
Are there mens and womens versions? are they tech shirts or not? size choice depends on this.
I would pay double that for the deer shirt. Will those ever go on sale?

I hope I can speak for malmo and myself in saying that your example makes no sense. LRC isn't a random clothing store I'm walking through. Neither of us are interested in the design of a shirt we can purchase in order to support and be identified with a mall chain store.
It would just be cool to be able to buy something reasonable-looking and not an eyesore. I want to support LetsRun. I really do. I'd probably buy two. It would be fun to wear them around at races/expos (if only to see how many people really know about LR - having a random person come up and say they are a message board regular would be pretty funny). That is also why I feel the "main" logo is mandatory so as to be recognized from a distance. You can put something funny on the other side, if wanted. Just don't make it so damn ugly.
Just ordered mine!
I don't get why people are complaining about the design, I think it looks totally fresh. I'll be wearing mine while training for my next race. It'll look sharp paired with dark gray calf sleeves and higher end shoes like VFF or Feelmax. The logo really rounds out that sleek "Sponsored" athlete look.
Hey rojo and wejo. I have some junk that I want you to buy. You can't see it beforehand. You should just buy it because you have a lot of money and that money doesn't mean anything to you because, you know, you never had to have a job to earn it.

1) Based on the design of this site, I would never buy something from letsrun.com sight unseen.
2) Clicking the link further down the thread, it's obvious that letsrun.com is trying to hide their Oregon/NOP/Rupp bias/hate.
Lame!
1) I understand the logic
2) The attempt was not to have anti-Oregon, NOP hate shirt. One can wear a shirt saying "Not Rupp Certified" and be a supporter of Oregon. The attempt was to have a shirt that had some sort of LRC slogan on it, that insiders would get. "Rupp Certified" was invented on these forums to denote something that is totally kosher and the forums are "Not Rupp Certified". There are all sorts of similar type shirts out there, "Free Beckham", "I still Hate Laettner", "Stop Pre" etc.
Tracksmith told us we could have shirts at their store, but couldn't display them, and so I went with the "secret" thing as well online. I could totally have gotten it wrong and this is coming across the total wrong way. Email me
weldonjohnson@letsrun.comor post how you are receiving it here.
I'm more worried now that I could have screwed this up.
3) The "Deer" shirts will be made. Fives of those were printed up last second as a trial and I really like them. The entire shirt thing was done in about 2 weeks as I vowed to have shirts for Boston. Our printer said less colors were easier so we did the black and white bibs. I personally Like the "Deer" one's the best now.
I'm not too worried about people saying the design sucks. Then don't buy it. It's weird sometimes the comments of a few bug me, and sometimes they don't. Questions about my design choices versus my intentions are two totally different things. The former doesn't bother me, the latter does.
The older we get I think the way too serious we take things. As for the "I'm Rick James, bitch!" delayed adolescense comment I'm fine with that. Our audience is a bunch of younger males, who I think the running world is a connection to their college days. The shirt a 25 year old may buy is not the same one as a 60 year old.
hey wejo
look at my question regarding sizes. despite the notion that women don't post here, some of us might want the shirt.
Wejo, can you clean up your grammar and spelling before you post? Or do you just not see the blunders? Either way, I've seen pictures of you and you have a MASSIVE head. Your brain must rattle around inside that skull like a ping-pong ball.
Whatever. The design is below average. The poke at Rupp is appreciated. Your attempt to be clever by selling it without revealing the design is not working. You and your brother are neither clever nor subtle.
Please, post a photo of yourself so we can post thoughtful comments about your appearance.
I thought the secret shirt/tracksmith shop were all cool ideas. Like I posted in my thread I was into the idea and went there planning to buy a shirt. But I just hated this design.
Hey Wejo, we know that you are hypersensitive and don't take good-natured humorous criticism well. But, your design is not good. And the whole buy it sight unseen, or as you would write "site unseen," didn't succeed.
I like the themes: 'Rupp Certified', 'Deer Adam', 'Trustafarians', 'Your Welcome', 'There They're Their It's Its', 'Sleazy Sal', 'Doping NOPers', 'Track Marathon'.

Men's sizes only. If you're debating between sizes the shirts run smaller so go up one size.
For the record, Rojo's head is way bigger than mine! Yes it is "Sight unseen" vs "Site unseen". Carry on.
I wonder what genius marketing we'll come up for the "Deer" shirts.
Not designed for a woman to wear...logos across the chest look bad..The design is ok. I would wear it, but just hate shirts with the painted logos like that, especially across the chest, just not flattering on anyone...

so is it really the shirt with the "rupp certified" bib number?

That's your audience? Of trolls, for sure, but they are just vandalizing thread after thread, and are not putting up any the real content on your website. They you really believe 25 year olds are buying shirts with a heavy sheet of ink gobbed across the chest? Why don't you ask Alan Culpepper if he's printing shirts like that for any of his customers?
The previous poster has it right, it is exactly the kind of shirt you'd never wear and would reserve it for housepainting or other dirty chores.
I just gave you constructive criticism and a real example design idea. The sheet of ink design really isn't defend-able.
Probably gonna run into copyright issues if you steal images from a real artist, and the brosjo are not creative or clever enough to come up with original art. That is, original art that is better than the kindergarten drawing that a soccer mommy sticks on the fridge.
