I'm assuming the Frenchie was surrendering, not celebrating.

They showed the steeple finish snippet on the Pac 12 Network broadcast. I thought to myself "How soon to YouTube?".
Poor Pepiot will need a sense of humor and a thick skin......but only for the rest of his life.
Did Pre ever celebrate in the homestraight at Haywood?

Not at Haywood, but Hayward. He usually waited until after the finish, because he was looking at the clock.
Pepiot was skewered on ESPN's PTI yesterday:
He also appeared on the front page of Yahoo.
Haywood played for Carver High if I recall correctly.
Just saw this on CNN. God I wish this had happened to Arkansas' anchor leg at the Penn Relays 4xMile in the late 90s. I think it was Seneca Lassiter that used to do this.
The best ever:
Am I the only one who doesn't think this is that big of a deal and certainly isn't worth all the attention it's received? Yeah, he lost the race, but he learned the lesson in a non-championship race and his team still won the meet. Certainly not worth 51 seconds of crap on PTI or going viral.

No. I'm sure there are other arrogant people who don't understand why the rest of us like to see you arrogant jerks humbled.

OK, he's humbled regardless of if the video goes viral or not. Your spite still doesn't explain why it's as big a deal as it was. I'm sure the fact that it happened, period, was humbling enough. The only time I think that's newsworthy is if it's in a championship race (or costs his team a meet victory).
Because people like to see showboating blow up in that person's face. It's human nature, for better or worse.
My teammate did this in the final straightaway of the 3k steeple at our conference meet our senior year. He had some arrogant tendencies and in general was a goofball, but he was my training partner and friend and I felt bad for him. He immediately knew how bad he messed up, too.
Is everyone on here just an insensitive ahole or did this Oregon dude piss on an American flag after the race?
"Because people like to see showboating blow up in that person's face. It's human nature, for better or worse." I have never once wanted it to blow up in someone's face. Then again, maybe I'm not human. Kudos to me.

He also got a 10 second of fame on local TV here (the day where you looked the dumbest). They even made fun of his name...
Wasn't there another French steeplechaser that got in trouble for celebrating too much recently?
And the hosts of the TV show have 3K steeplechase PBs of .........? So what. A young guy celebrates too soon in an early season race.

Right ... And had he won, he wouldn't even be a story on LRC, a website about running. Instead, he screws up, and it's national front page news.
Sure, he messed up (who doesn't), but I feel for the kid for the attention it's getting.
is it true this guy has an 8:33 steeple PR? if so, he should know better.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
