I had that when I started running again after a few years off. It disappeared with as much mystery as it appeared.
It was painless and I just kept running.
Does it affect your running? Foam roller baby!
Hamstring attachment?
Pes Anserine, brah. Ya hammies are probs tight. Like dese guys says up there; foam roll till ya wiggle like Gumby.
I can't run to uncomfortable been told it's the popoleus muscle but there's no pain In the back of my kne just this flick on extension
Yeah, it's called the "snapping pes anserinus syndrome". Google it. There are three tendons attaching to the medial side of the knee, and for some reason they start to snap while gliding over each other.
I've had it since December. I did some dynamic stretches and suddenly felt a tiny snap behind my knee during a kicking drill. I think I got some minor tear there because it was a bit tender for a few days. The pain disappeared, but instead the tendons on the medial side started clicking when extending the knee. And they still do after 3 months. My guess is that I developed some scar tissue there which prevent the tendons from gliding smoothly as they used to.
What I've read, there often is no cure other than surgery. :) Which I'm not going to take, since it's not painful, just annoying. I feel the snapping mostly when I accelerate and in the beginning of runs and workouts, but it tends to disappear as the tissues warm up.
just came across this thread since i started getting this. it was really random but i attribute it to having really tight calves.
The other day i sat on my knees with the foam roller on my calves then sat down and pushed it into my calves. I went out for a run and it didn't happen.
today, i didn't do this before i ran and it happened around 3.5 miles in.
give this a try.
Been struggling with this for 8 months- any thoughts from someone anyone who has overcome it?
Same here since March 17.
Runnable and back to training but it’s annoying. I use a massage rolling stick and do it very hard with no pain. Seems to help.
Going on a full year of this :(
I can run slowly but not fast and no turns or sudden movement. Stretching makes it worse.
Focus on picking your knees up after foot strike (focus on slightly faster turnover)
I get it from time to time in the winter. I think it happens with longer than normal ground contact time.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
