Same experience. I was 14, kept getting made fun of for my odd penis with the nipple on the end. Also, was getting mucosal tearing beneath the foreskin (wasn't yet pummeling my meat on a regular basis, so wasn't that). Washed like crazy, 2-4 times a day and still would be funky. Also, the mucosa underneath was so sensitive it was almost painful to touch - kind of like touching your eyeball.
Recovery from surgery was rough. Same as done at 29. Took about a month to be fully recovered. Having had a foreskin, and then not, I can honestly say I'm very glad to not have one.
Also, I'm a physician. Not a urologist, so not an expert, but I do believe the health benefits are a bit oversold. Penile cancer does happen but is incredibly uncommon. Mainly issues with infections and STD transmission.
As a sidenote, in medical school, it was funny when I worked on the OB ward. One of the responsibilities was talking to the new mothers about circumcising their babies. There was a large Hispanic population, and when we would offer circumcision through a translator, they would look shocked. Pretty sure they thought we were offering to cut off their son's penis. It just didn't translate culturally.
