Was that Grant Fisher? I can see many similarities in form and race strategy.

It's not sad. He has had tough years but he could come back. If not, he gave it his best. No need to be sad about that, it can't work out for everyone.
The videos show why people keep checking for his results
I agree with most of what you wrote, but disagree that it's "not sad." I simply mean it's a little sad for him ( I am sure), and a little sad for his fans to not be able to see what "might have been." Of course this is not the first time a prodigious talent was not able to fully live up to his possibilities, but I still think it's a bit sad when it happens. He was a one a billion talent. Like Verzbicas. I also think it's sad that LV will never likely never produce the incredible performances he seemed so capable of and even destined to produce, both on the track and in tri. Yes, this is life, of course, but life is also a but disappointing sometimes. c'est la vie.
Might German still run on an elite international level? Maybe, I am not completely counting him out. But more and more, the ship seems to be sailing on that. He's only basically back to near his HS level. That's got to be a little depressing for him. Hopefully he can remain healthy and positive.

Perfect example of when you should lead.
Yup- when you're far and away the best athlete in the race, leading is often the best course of action.
Yea, obviously. Although, even then sometimes ppl disagree.
In most every race, there should be at least 1 person whose best chance will come from leading.
What a joke of a coverage by CBS. They showed that dopey Oregon runner who was running in a fanstastic LAST more than German who WON.
Typical Oregon/Nike/NOP/Al Sal BS

Don't agree there. In many 1500 races the fields are so similarly talented that a front runner won't be able to win by leading. You think Mahk wins OG if he led? His best strategy was a big push 400 out. The last 1500 runner who could win the international championship races by leading was El G, and even then he rarely did it gun to tape.
Centro can actually do it effectively now, but he gets in front and slows it down- he just happens to be a master in slower, tactical races. Didn't he lead the semi final in one of his medal races?
based on the title of this thread i would have thought that G Fernandez had recently made the switch from running to underground dog fighting. disappointed, to say the least
