Let's turn it into a proper race-say 5k at around 12.45 pace-and all at their best-then who would win-only one winner-not the big 3, instead it would be the enigma that was Daniel Komen-I don't believe any of them could have stayed with him over the last 300 metres.

Yeah he did, the 2nd race. Then Komen crushed Haile's WR the next week. Had Haile done ANY of the work during the race though, I doubt he'd have beaten Komen.
They were one win a piece in 96/97. In 96 Haile embarrassed himself by giving up with 200m to go and jogging home for second. That was on par with Trevor Chappells infamous underarm bowl.
