I had the best season of my life last fall and finished it with a race mid-December. During that race, I twisted my ankle, but it didn't hurt that much so I finished the race and came close to my PR.
After that I took a week off, during which I felt OK, then I started up again gradually with just a little running. I got sick and hurt. I think part of getting hurt was from being sick but the injury has been really persistent and might have to do with the ankle twist during the race.
It feels like peroneal tendonitis (which I've had before) at the point where it inserts into the outside of my foot. It's a little different though; it's a lot less predictable (some days are perfect, some days I can barely walk, and those days are often consecutive) and sometimes it feels like something gets "stuck" and then it will really hurt for a while, but if my PT digs into it it feels perfect again. But then sometimes it also gets swollen and hurts to touch. It doesn't feel like bone pain (I've had a stress fracture and this definitely feels different). But it's really finicky and weird.
My PT thinks it might be cuboid syndrome. How would that feel different? Is it possible to have both?
I'm supposed to see a podiatrist in a few weeks (couldn't get in earlier) but am trying to get back to training soon so I can race in May. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the two and can offer any insight.
