Read his thoughts here on Alberto Stretti's blog:
http://www.albertostretti.org/2015/01/coach-canova-and-his-dubaimarathon.html
Despite the fact he coached the surprising race winner, Canova wasn't happy as he was focused on Bekele, "Today, I obviously was not happy."
An incredible read!! Canova says Bekele did have some achilles problems leading in but that he was " was confident in a time under 2:05" and thought he could win the race.
Despite the bad race, Canova is very bullish on Bekele's future as he says "His engine is still the most powerful in the World" and thought he'd win despite only doing 60% of a normal buildup.

As for the race winner, Canova says he was getting better and better in training and they recently revised his goal down to 2:05.
Canova talks about Bekele after Dubai- "His engine is still the most powerful in the World" - Reveals he coached the winner!!

Note, i changed the title of the thread as a LRC visitor wanted it more upbeat. You ask and you shall receive.
Initially it was titled, "Canova talks about Bekele's marathon in Dubai - "I obviously was not happy" - but reveals he coached the race winner!!" -
Great insight. Makes it look doubtful whether Bekele will turn out in London:
'How I told him after the race, “an injured or sick athlete doesn’t exist : he’s one injured or sick man, and the first step is to concentrate all the energies for becoming a fit and healthy man. Only after this first step, he can look for becoming an athlete again”.' -
Why Renato let Bekele start the Dubai Marathon is beyond me. After being sidelined for a couple of weeks in December, it was 100% clear that he wasn't going to be competitive.
Poor coaching decision. -

$$$$ presumably -
I'm so happy I decided to go to bed instead of staying up for the whole race.
I watched until that early water stop where he seemed to miss his bottle and stopped short to back for it. That probably didn't help his Achilles. -
Canova really believes in Bekele. There's no way he's "done"

How would Bekele do on an indoor rowing machine or exercise bike in energy output?

That's not Renato's decision to make, wise guy -
my sixth sense is sensing a lot of acting.
30k is a perfect tempo run for a top marathonner.
Kenny B let the bottle in the beginning cause he knew he didn't need it for 30k.
I didn't see the race yet, maybe it will change my oppinion.
Just a sense, or did you guys saw him limping arround 30k?
I sure hope this was all theather and that he doesn't end up in a second injury period.
The whole case arround Kenny B is very very interesting. Normaly you never hear of the next "new" top marathonner. They appear out of the dust and dominate and dissapear in the dust again.
But know a still running legend in the leage of Emile Zatopek, Hicham El Guerrouj and Paul Tergat focusses on the Marathon. He is already the GOAT but it isn't enought for him, The greedy bast*rd wants immortality like Emil has. ;) If he will get it is a big big question. I wish him a the strenght in the world that he may do so. -

It was presumably a decision by Bekele or Hermens, not Canova. He's an employee here, not the boss. -
Interesting, sounds like there's a replay available somewhere ? Hum...not on the Dubai marathon site it seems.

Seems like Renato has given up posting on LR and releases his comments via Alberto Stretti's blog, can't blame him for that considering the flaming he would get here the LR forum.
-
I agree with you DukeBoss. I watched the race live and thought that he was doing a hard workout. Time will tell, but I think that Beks will be back with something to prove in London.
-
Nature built that engine; Canova did nothing.
-
Canova is very confident in the drug protocol(s) he has laid out for athletes. Barring injury of course.

Well deserved flaming. He's a lying rat. -
