It is worth millions to Bekele if people believe he only did 7 weeks of training. It was worth millions to Coe to keep people believing his training involved less volume than anyone else.

Every word they say is MARKETING.

How did they remove the previous training he did so they were starting from scratch each time?

As for Rojo's OP, by "training" he's probably just referring to structured, marathon-specific training. I mean it's not like Bekele spent 6 months sitting on his couch eating potato chips then suddenly had an epiphany 7 weeks out from his marathon and decided to start running again.

The whole thing regards what exactly is meant by 'he only trained for 7 weeks'. Obviously he had a bit of running background prior to this 7 week period.

What kind of shape was he in before the 7 weeks? What kind of 'non-training' was he doing? If he had taken a legitimate break (no running) was it for 4 months or 4 days (more likely)?

Someone like Bekele already does 30k long runs twice per week, year round. He also averages over 100mpw, so for someone like him, 7 weeks of Marathon training is different as it is for the rest of us hobbyjoggers who slowly build with a "10 mile long run" and go from there...

Talk is cheap. He won't break 2:04.

Wow, I didn't realize Bekele was talented, I wonder if he could potentially break 5k/10k world records on the track.

Well, rojo is definitely an idiot. That is indisputable regardless of how much money he makes from this site or his trust fund. As for me, that is for others to judge.

Interesting stat how the Top 10 at Dubai the last several years ran their PR's by significant amounts at Dubai. I don't follow all the non-American runners closely enough to know much about their other marathons. Were those other races on fast courses like Berlin, Rotterdam, Chicago, or London also?

Why are you insulting me? All I did was ask a question. And no, my PR is not anywhere close to 22. I'm a national level runner.
