any good suggestions? is it possible at all around the strip area? do I need to head to surrounding areas. I'd love to get in in 3-4 runs of 8-12 miles outside while there and not have to do it on a treadmill in the hotel/casino.

It sucks in Vegas , great time to take a break !
There is no possible way to run on the strip just to many people all the time. If you want to go on an 8 to 12 mile run plan on running in the middle of the dessert. Otherwise don't loose to much money
Running on the strip or in historical vegas is damn near impossible. Last year while I was there I travelled to surrounding areas to run. Red Rock is not too far away and a great place to run.
Frank Sinatra Blvd. runs behind the strip. I believe it starts right around The Bellagio and heads back along Monte Carlo, New york New York, Excalibur,Monte Carlo, Luxor, Mandalay Bay.
I started behind the Monte Carlo and headed toward the Mandalay, then it loops around toward the strip and the famous welcome to las vegas sign. You can follow that road furthur South? about a mile to a convenience store(airport will start to be on your left) and head back. Its a good 6-7 mile run and not crowded at all.
Dont go on the other side (MGM side) especially at night. UNLV is that way, but the area is not the best.
There really are not too many places to run in Vegas. I've had most my luck going out by Lake Mead just out of Vegas and running, otherwise I'm sure there are plenty other sweet areas to run just outside of vegas with good views.
The Strip isn't bad if you finish your run by 8:30.
How long are you going to be there? If it is just four or five days, I would throw in an extra run the week before you leave, do one run in the middle of your stay, and then just enjoy yourself. There isn't much room for dedication and schedules in Vegas...at least not if you do Vegas right.
Run south and east streets into the residential areas. Avoid north and west as that's ghetto.
If you drive to trails, head to Blue Point or Red Rocks.
I'll be there late Wednesday night through Saturday afternoon. Thanks for any and all suggestions.

my roommate and i are going to vegas for four days in the beginning of march and can't really afford to take time off from running... we're staying at the Flamingo on the strip and won't have a car -- are there any more suggestions than what are already here for runs we can do? are there not some side streets that could go thru some decent neighborhoods, or is everything in the city shite? if worse comes to worse, would rather hit up the UNLV track as opposed to a treadmill in our hotel, depending on how hot it will be a month from now. we'll be partying pretty hard and staying up real late most likely, but will still need to fit in some good 8-15 milers. thanks for any and all help.
