This could be interesting. Notice how there isn't one smidgeon of discussion on this missing plane anymore

Of course the source is a novelist and the most interesting place to point the finger is the US government. Suppose it's true that a fisherman saw the plane, he didn't actually see it get shot down, but of course the natural thing to do is to merely jump into the most interesting conclusion. Using a tragedy to stir up interest in a writer... What better way to sell books?
The sighting would have been about 690 miles north of the US base at Diego Garcia.
The islanders' claims to have seen the plane were immediately dismissed by the local government because the plane was not tracked on local radars. But if it were flying low enough it might well have been missed by radar.
The position and timing of the alleged sighting was within the feasible flight envelope of MH370. Unfortunately, it does not fit the within the theoretical envelope of tracks developed by engineers working from Inmarsat transponder data. Engineers have been wrong before. If the sighting were valid the plane would have crashed into the Indian Ocean somewhere east of Madagascar. However, at this stage of the game the search is going to end with the Aussie-directed sonar search west of Australia. Unless, of course, the fire extinguisher is produced after all these months, and validated to be have been part of the aircraft, Or perhaps part of Amelia Earhart's aircraft.
