Tiernan-Locke didn't claim sex with girlfriend as an explanation for his sky high blood values, only binge drinking (at least 33 units according to his haemotological expert, Jonathan and the girlfriend didn't really remember how much, the expert had to estimate) and dehydration.
So 3 days prior to the biggest race of his career he got very, very drunk.
2 days prior to the biggest race of his career he woke up very, very hung over, and didn't drink anything because he was afraid to vomit. In the evening he took the plane to the Netherlands.
One day before the biggest race of he career he woke up and still didn't drink anything. Then came the testers and took his first bio passport test. After that he went out with his teammates to train. He had an ok training ride.
The next day he captained the GB squad at the road race world championships, with Bradley Wiggins, Chris Froome and Mark Cavendish among others riding for him, and came in five seconds after the winner. It was a very hard race, only 22 out of 207 starters completed the race. Tiernan-Locke was dry as a blackboard sponge after the summer, still he did very well.
Or he was still pumped up on EPO or blood transfusions since his Tour of Britain win a few weeks prior.
The details can be found on UK anti dopings website under sanctions.
