Thanks.

Thanks.
3:47.26 Michael Bartoszak (POL) in 1997 (I think)
Cherry St. Mile. He beat Frank O'Mara (IRE) 3:55
Joe Falcon (USA) 3:56.
Michael could have been one of the best in the world.
wtf? was it downhill?
I busted a 5:xx to start some random 5k some years ago when I was visiting family in the OKC.
Its probably in the top 1000 all time.
bump
I found Joe Falcon's 3:59.78 from the 1988 indoor NCAA meet in OKC. I couldn't find any track or facility records though so those might be faster (OU/OSU/Tulsa's facility record?)
yes, that 3.47 was downhill. super fast course. i think that you're dead on with falcon's sub4 at the myriad being the fastest legitimate mile in Oklahoma. the outdoor times would obviously be at 1500m, so i'm disregarding those.
bruce, thanks for starting this, what a blast from the past. BringBackTheMile should try to help someone restart the cherry street mile, wowzers, what a field they used to have!
I hate downhill miles. I don't understand the allure unless it is just have people want to pretend their downhill time is legit.
The only downhill mile ever run that I respect is when David Torrence ran one in order to win a bet.
OK Mile records - MEN
3:57.0 (indoor) Wilson Waigwa (KEN) 02/15/75; also in October 1992, Michael Bartoszak of Poland ran 3:47.26 (road) at downhill Cherry Street Mile (75 foot drop).
BBTM has had some talks with a group to bring back the Cherry Street Mile.
We are bringing back the Cherry Street Mile. The tentative date will be 10/20/18. We will update with more information soon.
bring it back, most fun race i've ever done
