Shalane 2:21:14
Who was it that called 2:21:xx.... The pessimism in t he prediction thread was right brojos... Too bad for her.
Wasnt Ryan hall supposed to race for the win today?
Is this announcer Lisa Hahner, who is twin sister of the top German runner Anna Hahner?
Obviously another PR. Great year for her!
I am glad no women's records were set with those male pacer groups. Unless Anna Hahner pulls off some kind of NR shit.
Did you all notice Kimetto breaking the 2:03 barrier, I called it first a few pages back.
A lot of interesting information in this thread and interesting stories in the race. What a beautiful course and epic and well-orchestrated event!
As for Kimetto's out-of-the-woodwork meteoric rise, I found it hard long ago to keep track of all the amazing Kenyans coming out of the woodwork for track or road emergence and running phenomenal times. A lot of top guys, W. Kipsang included? started serious training relatively late? And I do remember reading about some guy who had the good fortune of getting associated with G. Mutai and getting into running. If Dennis K turns out to be that guy, then, "nothing is impossible!" The sky is the limit! A hopeful message, if we can figure out his secrets besides good genetics.
Kastor's record is just so solid and will take more steps to grasp. Flanagan has to be somewhat happy, chipping away, getting familiar with the course and registering a fast time for her career slate. I, too was thinking about her long socks as I watched her in the early portions--don't marathoners want to distribute/eliminate body heat efficiently? I know long socks might have some "compression" benefits, but never understood--besides being a fashion statement--why her and, e.g. Solinsky wore them so incessantly. I might even wonder if it's possible that it negatively affects biomechanics--over-emphasizing the upper leg (and had his issue up there). Of course, priority wise, the upper leg comes first, reminding me of Jos Hermens' comments about Bekele's thigh-centric style versus Geb's calf-heavy style, but it's possible Solinsky (too late) and Flanagan need to get some more lower leg action in, in conjunction with their upper legs and retire the long socks already...

Bump for Flanagan updates?
Agree. Show us some other top gals. And seriously?? How is she so perky happy? Who is that way in the latter miles of a marathon?
Germans, that's who

I called it first on another forum, so there.
And you are forgetting Mikitenko's 2:19:19
There are no secrets:)
The socks worked for Paula back in the day.

The German girl is doing it wrong. She could drop 3 minutes if she learned to channel pure hate.

PR of 2:11:36 for Fernando Cabada for 10th.
There might be a glitch: he actually might be 11th behind Kazuki Tomaru

Then you can gloat on that other forum.
Glad I stayed up to watch the first 2:02 ever. I didn't watch the early stages...did Shalane go out too hard? She was almost a full two minutes off her goal, and lost to two women who didn't even go sub-2:20 (great races for them both irregardless).

Wow - Called it during the race with estimated finishing times up on the screen - Nice job!
As for your other comments, all you have done today is prove that you are a tool in two languages!
what can I say WOW You could see the world of pain surrounding him at 38-39 Km
The WR was 2:26:42 when I was born.
I was one of about 20 spectators in the stadium 3 years ago when she raced in my home town to qualify for the european u23 championships over 10000m.
I remember incredulously saying to my comrade and her sister that she looked like she was having fun whilst slogging through 25 laps on a track.
I guess thats just the way she runs...
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
