First of all you are taking Bolt's statement out of context. Bolt being the fastest all time has nothing to do with his form this season. Bolt said he can't beat gatlin THIS YEAR! Not because gatlin is running too fast but because Bolt is not in his usual top form. The issue here is Bolts form not Gatlin's!

Bolt has taken a lot of money from athletes.. No matter how much Bolt has done for track it has not benefitted the other athletes financially! Now we have 10.0 kids out of college who are struggling to get a contract because the WR is now 9.58. It really bothers me that people truly believe that Blake, Gay, Gatlin etc are doped but Bolt is doing his crap clean. 19.75 to 19.30 to 19.19 lmao so if Alonso Edward runs 19.36 next year what would you say? Oh wait he ran 19.81 as a teen so that's fine he's "talented" lol!!... Blake is the worst thing to ever happen to Bolt's legitimacy not because of his failed test but because he ran 19.26! There is clearly a drug that causes such great times cuz regular dope won't make u run 19.2/9.69 unless u agree that blake is a great talent?

Track and field has no investment whatsoever in seeing WC and OG finals won in barely under 10.00 and 20.00. Thy occasionally get rid of the occasional past-his-prime great (e.g., Christie) for appearance's sake, along with untold numbers of sprinters and others who will never be great, but that is the extent of their wanting a clean sport.

At the Lausanne meet this year (finished Gatlin, Gay Rodgers), Cram's commentary was something like "I know he's a controversial figure, but he served his sentence... but then again, Tyson Gay just got off a sentence of his own... actually Mike Rodgers did too..." Couldn't even keep 'em all straight.

Agreed. I stop watching track and field now and buy shoes from minor brands. With no money coming in from TV revenues or sponsorships the organisers of the sport would soon understand.

If you really don't see why Gatlin is bad for track and field you have no knowledge of sprinting history, or track history in general. He is so obviously bad for the sport it's incredible. Why he wasn't banned for life is a mystery to me.

Sure Bolt is NOT clean but it seems a tad problematic to ban him without any failed drug tests. What are we going to do, just say "I believe you're a doper so you are banned because of my belief. Somehow that seems problematic on so many levels.

And getting back to the OP's, "Justin Gatlin is part of the reason why track and field is a joke now" - Yes, I think that is true. To followers of the sport, Bolt is a cheater. To the general public he is just Superman. On the other hand, to the general public Gatlin is KNOWN to be a drug cheat and is winning all the big meets. That makes the sport into something of a laughingstock.

track and field, cycling, weight lifting, all individual sports where the crime really stands out. but it is happening EVERYWHERE

ever see a football player after he retires? he strinks tremendously......but he is hidden in a uniform and on a team.....but HgH is all over the place.

wonder why baseball used to have homeruns galore and now it is a pitchers game again.....better testing but everyone was doing it at every position and in the minor leagues

However, go to the Women's 3000m coverage, and what do we find there?

"drug cheat Mary Slaney".

In fact, every time there is a mention of Mary Decker Slaney, it is ALWAYS either "doper" or "drug cheat".

Quite frankly, I am sick of seeing it, and I'm sure many others feel the same.

Compared to the coverage of Gatlin, what we have is hypocrisy.

I know, I keep scratching my head when I read "convicted drug cheat Mary Slaney" and not a word about Gatlin. In fact, rojo was posting about how he doesn't even care that Gatlin got busted because he served his sentence or something.

It is hypocritical, and it makes them look foolish. rojo has been slamming into Salazar and his athletes recently and giving a pass to people like Gatlin, Bolt, etc. Sure, go after Salazar's athletes, but if you think he's the only problem with this sport, then you're seriously mistaken.
