Looked at a couple of versions of the European 1500 final on Youtube today and the BBC version on my tv and found that Benabbad's closing sprint was even more impressive than it looked.
The BBC version doesn't show him at 1400m, focussing instead on the group behind battling for minor medals, but the Irish transmission shoed him clearly.

Although his final time was a slow 3:45, he practically walked the last 100, otherwise it would have been 3:43.
His 3rd lap from 800 - 1200 was 55.0
His 400m from 1000m (2:40.1) to 1400m (3:30.4) was 50.3!
His 300m stretch from the bell (2:53.4) to 1400m was 37.0.
And perhaps most impressive was the 200m stretch from the bell to 1300m (3:17.7) was 24.3!
I can't remember a faster 200m stretch in the last lap of any 1500m. Now I don't consider Benabbad to be an astounding 1500m runner, so this shows me that given the right sort of race and decision to go at a specific point "all out" , that many of the greats would have been capable of even faster splits in a relatively slow race.
