I have a running friend in Iowa City who is having a chronic running related problem with his leg. No one has been able to give him a definitive reason or diagnosis. Can anyone recommend a good PT or Dr. in the area who works with runners?
Thanks.

Is anyone from Iowa City?
Actually there are many people from Iowa City here, they just don't like you.
call up the orthopedic clinic at the UI hospitals & clinics and ask who treats the XC and track teams. When I was there it was a younger doc.....he was a runner, and was not knife-happy. Any surgeon who says "surgery is the last option" is good in my book. Sorry can't remember the name.
I am a second year PT student at the University of Iowa. I wish I could say I could help, but thats a year off. In the meantime I have a teacher in PT school who runs a clinic called Performance Physical Therapy in Coralville (there is also a clinic in cedar rapids). His clinic has had very good luck with patients that have struggled with long term injuries that others have not treated effectively. He is a great teacher and I trust him as a clinician. I don't want to send his name over the internet, but look into Performance Physical Therapy in Coralville for help. Good Luck.
Not a PT, but when I lived in Iowa City I used to go to a guy named Mario Castro for regular massage. He has worked with the Iowa wrestlers and other athletes and really helped me over the course of a year to get me ready for the 2000 marathon trials. He diagnosed and treated my piriformis/sciatica problems and gave the best theraputic massage I've ever had. Last I knew he was working through a chiropractors office in Mt. Vernon, and he previously had an office in Cedar Rapids. You may want to call the athletic department (particularly IA wrestling) to find out his number.
